Submitted by Eliasd on Thu, 2014-07-03 18:02
Hi, I have a milky colour grease on all the little arms and joints and on carby on my outboard, what would be the best way to remove it so I can grease them up with new, and something that's not going to discolour the alloy also what can I spray over the block to protect it. Thanks

To remove the grease build up
Use some regular brake cleaner that you can buy in aerosol cans at any major automotive chain.
for future protection or lubrication I would suggest a product called lanix which is a lanolin based lubricant. Again available at any major automotive store

Ok great, so the brake
Ok great, so the brake cleaner wont damage or discolor anything, what if it gets on the paint of the motor. Thanks

Should be fine
I have used it on a variety of painted surfaces and haven't had any issues as yet. If you are worried about it then double check the label on the product first.
brake cleaner evaporates as well so once it has broken down the greasy substance it should evaporate to leave a nice clean surface.

Also
If you are concerned about paintwork damage
maybe try a very small amount first on a painted area to ensure there is no reaction
