RFBL for a 4 Year Old
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2014-12-29 12:55
I just assumed my 4y old wouldn't need a fishing from boat licence and have been taking him out in the dinghy although he is only happy catching blowies with his handline anyway.
Looking into it I've realised I do need to buy him one and was a bit miffed until I realised it's only half price and I can now bring home 20 crabs if we are putting on a feed for family and friends.
Win!

don't think he "needs" one as
don't think he "needs" one as long as you have one.
he can fish under your licence but only take up to 1 bag limit between you guys.
but yeah worth it if you are going to bag out.
edit: when you are 4 years old ...catching blowies on a hand line is just the bomb !!! haha

I couldn't see anything as stringent as some of the issues that have popping up with cray pots so as far as I can see he doesn't have to pull the nets just be in my dinghy with a current licence. I'm glad fisheries weren't at Waroona a month ago as I didn't have a freshwater fishing licence for him either.
I guess the moral of the story is to read up and never assume.

Share a bag limit
Check Page 6 of the attached - only 1 RFBL required per boat, but you can only catch up to the bag limit per Licence. If you get him one as well, then you can catch up to 2 x bag limits or boat limit as applicable.

If your luck is generally anything like mine, 1 RFBL is more than enough.....

A few years back, had a bright idea of buying an inflatable dinghy and a small lecky motor to take the kids out for a fish around the jetties. Headed down to one of the local jetties and set everything up. Was approached by two fisheries officers, thought they were gonna just say hello but instead they gave me a whole lecture about the rfbl. But as a boat owner, lucky I had a rfbl in my wallet with me.
