Hey just new to doing deepsea boat fishing around the metro area but had little success and just curious how far off shore we need to go to find some good ground.

plenty of ground out there
plenty of ground out there mate... just takes hour on the water to find it...
to try and be more helpful than the above post, where about are you based? north or south metro??
either way, the better ground starts in the 30 m mark... and personally i find around the 40 - 50 m areas best. try looking for small rises, and hard bottom ( flat coral ) , as it tends to get less pressure than the obvious lumps
good luck
