rocket launchers & marlin board fabrication.
Added 2 doors fro protection and better looks made from 10mm plastic board.
I deceided that I wanted a decent rocketlaunhc rack on top of my hardtop
ordered some SS 25mm tube, CNC ed a few baseplates and bought 6 SS rocetlaunch tubes.
Somehow one was in a bag and is a pollished one without a bottom plastic ring GRRR!
bend them pipes up and fired up the TIG.
2 hours later it was all done!
I will get some box speakers for the Doof dooff sounds while we hauling in the fish!
It is great fun adding and improving an old boat and making it to your own liking!
replaced today all the springs and running bear on the trailer.
slowly it is getting better and better.
Anybody else here done one up and have some tips?
Thinking of making a SS/timber marlin board all along the back, seen it done on a Carribean rebuild!

I cannot add to many rod
I cannot add to many rod holders to the back as most of the back gunnel are baitboxes with lids and the electrics are right underneath the middle where there would be a space.
Only place to add would be a screwed on one either side of the engine hatch.
With the rocket rack, I look at it this way, while fishing one has one rod in hand and 2 or 3 more ready to go depending on how many are on board.
We, Team Bluefin savages, consist of 3 in total at this moment in time for the next Exmouth competition!
Will add outriggers before that event!

Very good work
Very good work mate. You will be amazed at the extra room on deck you gain by putting rods up out of the way, plus the doors are very good idea and make the area look nice and clean.
What did you use to bend the 25mm tube. ? I have a tube bender but tends to crease the tube.

MIG or TIG course.MIG machine
MIG or TIG course.
MIG machine with enough power (Pulse MIG) and a push-Pull gun is easy.
TIG ali welding is like gas welding; heat, shielding gas and filler rod, much slower but better to control.
There are nowaday's decent TIG machines available for the Hobby man for not to much $$
A decent Pulse MIG and Push-Pull gun set up is a fair bit more
I believe that there are some very good welders here on this forum.

Practice helps
Youve done a great job mate. I have both TIG and MIG but not push pull on the MIG. To get a good run on the mig the push pull is definately the way to go. I have done a few courses on both styles of welding , but practice is by far the best thing to do .
Thats why i do jobs for myself first , so i can tweak the welder and myself for different applications. I find the stainless not too bad but the alloy is a bit tricky, helps to have a good mate handy for tip's when you have problems.

Picked up an all ally marlin
Picked up an all ally marlin board of an Caribean boat.
will modify it by cutting out the mesh, weld some brackets on it and add clear varnished jarra timber slats to it.
Polish the ally and it will look period as marlin boards were in the day's of old when Men were Bold and the rest of it.
Might make some pics with some progress of what it is and how it will turn out (Hopefully good)
This is what I will work with, already started to cut out the mesh.

bit of a progress picture
bit of a progress picture after cutting and grinding the mesh and welds of the frame.
then cut sme planks I have had in storage for a lotta time to size to make it look "old school" teak wood like.
Next is welding new brackets and 2 angle brackets underneath to fasten the timber on!
p.s. made sure bikes were covered up
Just seen in the picture that one piece of timber is Jarrah and the rest is Niatta, will try to get another Niatta piece for it to make it uniform.
did not notice it before in the sun

Off topic ?
I dont think its off topic mate, you have shown talent in boat modifacations and i have been inspired to do more to my boat.( need shade )
Also like you, my fix it your self approach comes from other influences, ie work, hobbies, toy's,welding, etc, etc.
To share how to do something is cool,
Cheers Grant.
