Rod Holder Adaptor

I'm trying to track down a rod holder adaptor for my boat. The boat currently has inbuilt port and starboard gunnel rod holders that are fixed & angled towards the back of the boat for trolling purposes. However, I want to be able to use these rod holders for drift fishing and bottom bouncing. For this purpose I need the rod holders angled to the sides of the boat (not towards the back). I suspect this can be done by a rod holder adaptor of some sort. Specific purpose is for my rod/electric reel combo's when bottom fishing in 300+m of water. I don't wish to hold the rod all the time & want to place it in a holder.

I don't want to change out my existing rod holders as i do alot of trolling also, hence the need for an adaptor.

Any links to this product or where i can get it would be appreciated. I suspect they are relatively common?

Or you might have more luck to draw exactly what you want and get somebody with CNC pipe bender to bend it for you. Mobs who bend customised exhaust systems might be able to help you.

Yeah Likc, I did see this one. It's like that concept, but not quite the same as that one seems a litte too extended and not sure if the angle is correct either. Cheers-  John

Snuffs these are what your looking for I reckon http://www.reelax.com.au/store.php?cPath=271    I have been after some adjustable ones like this for ages a tad expensive $300 pair delivered, but high quality, havent seen anything in Perth like them only the platic adjustable ones that only have adaptors for either rigging straight to your boat or from railing. I've ordered a pair so if you interested on what i reckon let me know.

Not sure on what type of boat

Not sure on what type of boat it is (ali, glass) but you may be able to unscrew the rod holders from the boat, rotate the rod holder to the angle you want, then drill some new holes and screw them back into place. Odds are the plate around the rodholder will cover the old screw holes.

Another option would be to use PVC pipe and the joiners to form a shape/angle that you want.

They look like the business. $85 for the pair seems reasonable.

These are a bit more heavy duty

As always you get what you pay for.  I think the Reelax Rod Riggers are around $230 a pair.  There needs to be some degree of caution when using these and hence the warnings / recommendation that safety lanyards should be used.  In a deep drop situation I would be making sure the drag is set accordingly.

Rod holders

Any reason you can't just add more ??? There are many brands / styles / prices etc . Mount them next to the existing ones and all good to go !!

And you can never have too much storage on a boat !!

Cheers fishfish

Rail mount.

Sun, 2013-03-31 17:04

I went and got a 300mm stainless hand rail. Drilled two holes in the gunwale to attach to the boat. Then attached two stainless, rail mount holders to that. Solid as, can change angles on two axis. Cost about 120 bucks per side.
