Rod for my Pflueger president
Submitted by PT on Sun, 2012-09-16 11:16
Hey guys, I've just bought myself a Pflueger President 6935 (3500 size reel) and im wondering what to pair it with.
I was thinking a Pflueger Trion since theyre on special at bcf atm for 99 bucks but since im pretty new to all this stuff i dont know which one to buy. (like what length or weight rating etc)
The come in 1-3kg 2-4kg and 3-6kg class, one and 2 peices 6ft6 or 7ft
I want to be able to throw around super light soft plastics with 1/16oz jigheads for bream in the river and also be able to bring in bigger flatties and whatever i can drag out of the ocean.
So yea, whatever thoughts you have would be much appreciated.
Cheers

what size line?
Really up to you bud- what size line do you want to run? if you say Bream but you also mention other fish? stick to the 2-4kg or the lighter version and look at the 7ft and above models if your land based mostly.
make sure you take the reel in and slot it onto the rod you most like (get a feel for it), get some decent braid which I would recommend Sunline, Daiwa sensor or your budget most likely and away you go.
If your flicking plastics mainly go for a light tip with fast action to give you some idea to get started.
Good luck

Rods
Hi mate,
For a reel that size the Trion's are nice, I would also consider the Shimano Rack Raider 6ft 8. Its rated 3-5kg though its closer to a 2-4kg blank. Nice and light and has quality Fuji Components including Alconite Guides. Something like that is around $135 or if after something a little more up market than the Pflueger Asaro 7ft 2-4kg dropshot rod is worth a look. This is a powerful stick that will turn big bream and flatties and has that slightly quicker taper to help flick light plackies. That one goes for around $195 Fw Price. As for line, Like Bradzino suggested the Sunline Super PE is a dream to cast with and we all like to use it on our bream reels.

Cheers for the responses fellas, i think ill go for the 7ft 2-4kg 2 piece Trion which seems like a pretty good option for 99 bucks. Ive got some old Berkly Fireline 10lb ill be putting on the president
Unless someone has one or something good second hand that they're looking to sell?
Im a uni student so my budget is pretty damn tight =P so any more budget rod options you'd recommend would be cool, are there any specials on at Oceanside Tackle and Marine?
Cheers again

Specials
Hi mate, We dont have any specials on at the moment,. Though we always offer discount and special deals to Fishwrecked forum members. We also stock the Berkley Dropshot 6ft 8 3-5kg rod that would be suitable and still has Fuji Alconite guides which we can do for $89.
Cheers

I've got the 3-5kg Berkley
I've got the 3-5kg Berkley Dropshot (gen II) matched with a 3000 size Okuma myself & quite like it. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that the ferrule is right on the bindings of the second guide up from the seat. I don't know if that's been changed on the gen III & IIII but I sure hope so because it's a stupid place for it. I've also got the 2-4kg 6"6' (gen II) dropshot that I used with the 3000 size Okuma before I put a 1000 Stradic on it. The 2-4kg model is by far my favourite bream & flathead rod.
