Rottnest online bookings

For the last 5 years I have tried to do the online booking for moorings and entry to Rottnest without luck.
Every fucking time it comes up with "some of the vessel data you have entered is invalid".

I have rung them several times and as helpful as they often are, only gotten "not sure, you must be entering something wrong".
Even if I dont put any detail in it comes up the same.
I copy it from my rego papers which only has the length and rego number

Anyone got any tips because its bloody painful having to walk in and do it on a busy day over there

I have never had a problem?

Maybe your draft is too much for the moorings or boats too big?

The online booking portal

Wed, 2017-12-06 21:52

The online booking portal struggles with IOS if your using apple devices Rob.

Ive downloaded google chrome on iMac and use that to book now. Works heaps better

Also keep your draft under 0.5m, not that it matters if your booking a Bathurst beach pen as you will end up on the fkn sand at low tide anyway....

Apple products result in fork in eye....

talking to the girls on the phone results in 2 forks in the eye.

Up up until yesterday I have had no issue on a normal computer,  but yesterday and today it spat me out about 10 times. Finally got a mooring for this Saturday.

When you over over there Rob, will come over for a beer.

Draft Im putting in as .4M, and Im not even getting as far as selecting anything, just wont accept my boat details.
And hence I cant do entry fees, instead have to land on jetty, unload bikes, walk to Vis centre and wait in line etc etc
John Im looking at getting home from work 27th Dec, drive to Gero load up (and fit new brake pads to Kodiaks-another story...) then wizz back down and launch for NYE.

Have bumped into a few people there from FW, and more than a few who have seen us but not come up for a yarn!

Probably just anchor as I know everything will be booked anyhow but also had a very kind offer of a mooring to use though Id reckon thats the one night itd be already in use!

Frustrating

Thu, 2017-12-07 05:03

The booking portal has always been a shit webste with heaps of glitches. I was told a couple years ago they were redoing it.....I’m sure I even filled out a survey they sent me on it a gave it a blasting.

i just had a look and tried to book a mooring only and can’t even enter vessel details, drop down menus won’t work. Even as a returning customer once you login it won’t save any of your vessel details, all has to be entered each time to search availability. Very annoying especially as there is always cancellations and spots to do come up so would be good if checking current availability was quick & easy.

ill be over there NYE for a few nights, hopefully catch you for a beer.

Pretty flaky

Thu, 2017-12-07 06:49

It mostly works for me but it can be flaky. My most common problem is that I fill out all the details on several pages, then it won’t let me click the continue button.

With the vessel details try to avoid using decimals, I just use whole numbers and it seems to work.

 I had a similar issue

Thu, 2017-12-07 10:10

I had a similar issue recently - it finally worked when I had filled out every box. Even the non-compulsory boxes like boat name. Only then would it let me proceed.

Interestingly, the pens on the wharf near the Bathurst beach pens are the same price as the beach pens. And your boat doesn't end up on the sand. I can't remember the name of the wharf though.

Hiw long are are you staying over there? Is this instead of the Australia Day trip? If I get a day off I might come over for a beer with you. Let me know if you need a park.

Hey Alex, next txt was going to be to you
NYE to about 6th Jan, how does parking sit with you? Promise to post a report this time

yep shorter swings at new job and Im off 28th-17th so miss Aus day which is a bummer as it is always entertaining (last time notwithstanding...)

Probably launching on 31st and heading over, will need to anchor on NYE somewhere though I reckon.

It should throw an error describing what you missed, but it doesnt.

Thu, 2017-12-07 16:23

that one had the pen closest to beach last NYE  so i didnt have to exit off bow all the time

but this is also where all the tenders tie up and bounce off your motor!

6.5 metre boat and my motor got to close to rear pylons for me

was there last weekend and first time i havent been beached in the morning at bathurst but also very deep piggy backing the kids after dinner

usually tie up hard to the bouys and still be beached most mornings

Always try different devices

Thu, 2017-12-07 17:41

Always try different devices as there is so many internet browsers now, plus if your browser is out of date, many systems wont handle the data entry.

So anyone having problems with an online form. go to a different machine, preferably the newest machine.

Often, error messages are just a generic thrown message written by the coder.  So the error message potentially has nothing to do with your issue.

Managed it, thanks for the advice and ESPECIALLY thanks to the great people here who offered assistance in various generous ways of secret advice, parking (Fuzzy79 to the rescue again ), use of a mooring.
Some of these people Ive met before, some corresponded with before and one very generous one who has only read the Abrolhos trip reports but responded immnediately!

Booking prob was the 0 before the .4 draft (mostly) and I managed to get a Fuel Jetty pen for NYE.

Reckon from there I can sneak onto the beach moorings once the first drunks have motored off the beach playing bumper boats on NYD
