Rotto visability sunday

I was blown away on sunday by the vis on at rotto dived the south side at crystal palace with an open water group and took my camera down for some happy snaps. swell will be picking up again this sunday,so after two weeks of low swells now is the time to get out and and enjoy it and get away from the sea nettle plague along perths shore. First pic was taken at 18.5m on the sand line south of the dive site waiting for the group to descend. Never been on a local dive where we could see the surface so clearly at 18m felt like it was 9 meters the whole time!

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Great pic that first one.

Great pic that first one.  Rotto blocking all the crap coming down in the current?  Dived 15km north of Rotto last wednesday and had current pushing from the south.  Think it must have been a big eddy of north water hitting Rotto.

Cheers Pete

wow amazing vis

we dived sat at swirl & roe reef and it was nothing like that. The southern side of the island certainly looked a lot clearer on the way over though.

in close was horrible

Tue, 2011-03-01 16:36

I went out on Saturday arvo and Vis was horrible. Out from Mindarie and got about 8 meters adn a washing machine with the swell. We had to come in close to dive as it was so green. Only did one dive and came up early as it was a waste of time. Horrid!

How do you pick visibilty and days? No swell, bugger all wind and mint days leading up to Saturday.... yet ?!?!?!?

Saturday

Yea me and my girlfriend went out saturday and dived the three mile strip from mindarie, due west of the alkimos wreck, we dived 18m and had pretty good vis still around 15m or so but nothin like rotto some really good looking contour lines out there for diving.

I guess most people will have there own theories on vis, mine is low swell for and extended period of days without much of a seabreeze running. I dont generally think chop or seabreeze affect it that much  unless its shallow water,  in the deeper stuff i tend to think only if its high seas for some time and strength. i tend to think its more from swell/surge that affects vis deeper and as the guys above said strong currents, definately noticed the current diving off mindarie saturday and would explain to me why south side rotto was so good as it would b sheltered from the current.
