SALMON

Went dowm south with half of Perth on the long weekend looking for some salmon. Haven't explored much but managed to find a medium sized bay south of Indijup point. Saw a couple of good sized schools of what looked like salmon.Managed only 1 good sized fish of 5kg. At the most there were probably 10 people spread out within this bay and with only 3 people fishing.
Bloody awsome sight seeing a school come in with a wave with the sunlight lighting their shapes up. Really exciting stuff.Weather was okay with a med easterly in the morning which was off shore where i was then later a sea breeze. Saw a few boats trolling but nothing caught, atleast with what i saw with my binoculars. Any else went down south??

Too Early??

Thu, 2007-03-08 17:12

Was all amped for a monday early morning fish at the same spot and guess what? No one told the fish to be there...Caught the sunday salmon on a metal lure which slides along a double leader which is then tied to a single hook on one end then a swivel to the other. When the salmon jumps the metal lure slides away from the hook preventing the salmon having weight to throw , close to it's mouth. ATB MAXY

Small Schools

Fri, 2007-03-09 09:45

There were small schools of salmon spread out a long the coast last weekend, with many seen but not caught around bunbury through to dawsville. The blow we had last week may have dispersed some from bigger schools.Point Peron could be worth a look at this weekend for a few.

Lukas,Dan, Howd ya go?? I went today again (Sunday) and landed two good sized fish. Made the little Bream graphite SINGGGGG with 4lb braid. Not that hard to land when there's enough line on ya reel.Had a ball. Not too many schools though. You can see anything that swims by up at the car park hey and you are right about Indijup point. Had a rod but no lures!

Sun, 2007-03-11 20:23

Didn't go on friday. Forgot to take my tackle box with me to work. Not gonna happen this week though. Got a new tackle bag for all the lures and tied a leader for the light line so I'm ready to rock. If only I didn't have to go to perth tomorrow!
Oh well tuesday is looking good. If they've hit augusta hard then they should be here some time this week!!!
Still waiting for my new reel with the 6lb on it!

Temptation

Sun, 2007-03-11 21:04

After seeing how well my older bro is doing up at Kal I decided last night to go down again. Got up at 5am and was fishing by 8am. Some cow boys there though. Slamming the schools right on top of em and scaring em too much. Again the first school swam by around 10ish. MAXY

Nah. Chased a school up and down the beach but they stayed out of casting range because I didn't have a 12 ft rod...
Saw a couple landed looked to be about 6-7kg's but no joy for me. Might have another look this afternoon.

WIND

Wed, 2007-03-14 14:09

There wasn't a sea breeze that I saw last week end, do they still come by when it's on shore in the afternoons? Obviously it would be harder to reach a school... MAXY

So cant wait for this year if it goes like the last. Well have to head out together one day for some fun when they get here. Sooner the better i hope.

Trigg blue holes,

Thu, 2007-03-15 17:02

Trigg blue holes, yanchep(later in the year) and north moles worked good for me but you did have to use a large popper to get the schools interested when they were out of casting range and once they come in switch to the other gear. I found that raiders and snipers in the 40 to 65gm size did most of the damage as well as 5' tsnami prerigged fish also worked well when you arms got tired of winding the metals flatout. Saying that though i did see them all up the metro coast alot when i was about but they could only be accessed with a small tiny, to far away from shore. Had a great time last year landing around the 40 fish mark in around 10 sessions. Hope its the same this year.

Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!
