Salmon 2013 "New"
Submitted by Jac54 on Tue, 2013-04-16 10:39
Salmon reports are starting to dry up lately particularly around Dunsborough way. Heading down there in a few days.
Thought I'd start up a new thread as the other Salmon 2013 is getting way too big!

heaps at yagerup, near pemberton, waves huge so big lures needed, and a favourable wind. Couldn't see the schools but we got 15 in 3hours, only landed 6 coos the rest spat hooks, broke or straigtened the gangs.

I was speaking to a bloke
I was speaking to a bloke earlier who was down at Yallingup on the weekend. He said that he had seen the biggest salmon he had come across, gutted, with its head removed, left on the beach.

Fished the rocks at Cheynes
Fished the rocks at Cheynes Friday, Saturday and Sunday with Ryan T.
Big, hard fighting salmon, average was 6kg I reckon. First bite around 8am and plenty of schools coming through, often no more than 8-10 casts per hook up. Weather wasn't great, but plenty of fish. I also managed to land an Oriental Bonito, a first for me.
Salmon completely shut down each day by 2pm and you may as well go home. No one catching anything after 2pm and it started to slow down after 1pm really.
Plenty of rock and reef, busted off quite a few times and also lost a few that threw the hooks as usual. If you fish off the rocks, consider 60 pound leader, helps when you land them. As I said, really hard fighting and cunning bastards too. We learned on the first day that 60 pound leader was the go.
Trusty old slices killed it, as did good old Richter plugs. We outfished anyone we saw using bait quite badly.

Denmark
Just returned from Dunsborough and after 10 solid days of fishing there's not much to report with only 5 Salmon being caught between us. It had been going off a few weeks earlier and I spoke to several guys
claiming to have caught heaps back then. Stories of 18+ 30+ 40+ and one guy claiming a 100 in a day! As usual I must have picked that Lull that happens after a good run. Anyway I'm heading to Denmark next week and I've never
fished for Salmon there before. Any suggestions for some Top Salmon spots there this time of year?

Dunsborough
Dunsborough or any of the smaller bays because the further you go north inside Geographe bay the bigger the swell is going to be. Bunker bay, Rocky Point and probably Eagle bay will have 8 foot plus surf running.
All the west coast beaches will be closed out, Hamelin won't have a beach for a week at least.
