Salmon at Mewstones
There was plenty of action at Mewstones yesterday with a school of salmon taking everything thrown at them. Even my girlfriends young bloke caught his first salmon which almost pulled his arms out his sockets. We had a bit of a laugh when we had a double hook up only to discover my girlfriend and I were on to the same fish. we got it along side and both mullie baits had been taken by the same fish. I claimed it as my hooks were in deeper so therefore taken first..
All up there was probably a dozen boats out there and most were well behaved although some tangles were encountered with overcast lures travelling further than needed. All up it was a great start to the salmon season for us. I kept 5 salmon for some older blokes at my local pub who put them in the smoker and I get a bit of that..

Nice one,
I had a quick putt past in a 6m white centre console though without a touch kept moving out. Just behind Mewstone there was a large school which we had to ourselves. Two blokes had never landed them before were stoked to catch 6 in quick succession.
Took a group out on Friday also, whom had never fished before, whom also landed a couple each so more people enjoying our sport.
Took 4 home out of 11 fish landed, All that were released swam away.
Good to not see fish floating belly up around the rocks unlike last season where you could follow the trail of dead fish.

I did see one fish on the surface feebly flapping its tail but a guy came past and scooped it into a net and gave the thumbs up. He seemed pretty stoked to snare a fish for no effort so good on him .. Hopefully he put it to good use.

Yep limit your catch not catch your limit
I don't know who said that but it is a good saying and practice.

Fisheries on the case
Good to see Fisheries out there this morning. People pretty patient with each other. I could have done without the metal lure slamming into our new boat creating a nice divot in the fiberglass though, but it was a just a kid so i bit my tongue.. There are some horse of salmon out there - one of them has my new Nilsmaster in its gob still.
I think I'll hunt them at Rottnest next weekend though - the number of boats out there makes it a little unnerving.

Crowd
We saw the crowd at Rowboat Reef and thought, stuff that. We found a few fish a bit further out, in solitude.

Eat 'em fresh
Well actually if they are properly looked after as soon as you bring them into the boat, cooked correctly (don't let them dry out too much) and eaten fresh they are pretty good.
I don't keep them unless I'm out of fillets but when I do people always enjoy it. Don't try to freeze any though. They aren't red emperor but worth trying.
