salmon reels

hi guys, i need a reel for flicking lures ( stickbaits, divers, poppers ect.) for salmon. I still need a reel thats light enough for bream but can still cast plastics for snapper and salmon. i've been looking at the caldia 14 2500 and the sol II 3000. I will be running 10lb-15lb braid, gomoku of course. what do u think of these reels and any other recomendations?

thanks

 Hi fishing guy, those sizes

Hi fishing guy, those sizes that you are looking at are ok, maybe a 3500 is suited better though. The salmon pull harder than expected, so I use a stradic 5000 for that, and a Sedona 2500 reel for my bream, herring and flathead (the smaller fish). I don't think using a universal reel for salmon and bream is the best idea, maybe get a good reel for the fish that you will fish for most, and get a cheaper reel just starting off on the other species.

when I  started off my breaming I got a shimano FX 2500 and put 6lb braid on (all up about $50) which is reliable because it doesn't have enough parts in it to go too wrong. After a year of extreme abuse (dropped in sand, concrete and salt water countless times) the reel cracked which somehow damaged the anti reverse a bit.

then for my birthday I really wanted a good salmon, tailor and beach combo so I got my stradic and a 10 foot euro cyclone rod 17-40 pound rating. This is a great combo for bream lure and bait fishing which can handle little herring to big salmon and if I wanted to, snapper. The reel is more of a lure reel which I worked out quickly, so I never use bait with it ever.

I suggest start off small, i liked bait fishing when I started which was only a year ago. I used not great rods and reels, and have now got a dedicated bream lure combo and sometimes bait because it wasn't an expensive combo, and I still have my $20 combo which I take riding and bream fishing (I love it lol) and I have my beach rod and reel combo dedicated to bait (fin nor biscayne 80 and a rovex air surf prime 13' 6-15kg combo which can handle herring to sharks) and my beach lure combo with the stradic and cyclone.

i hope this helps, if you wanted an all round combo, start off with a rod and reel that can be used for stuffing around, a reel with about a 3500-4000 sized reel. If you have a bit of money to throw around I would by a dedicated rod and reel for bream and another combo for salmon and snapper. It is a better way to enjoy your fishing.

it took me a year to grow my collection (still growing and imroving) and I would suggest that to everyone!

My Stradic 2500 ci4 running 10lb handled them with ease. Either of those you mention would be equally as capable.

Mine's caught it's fair share of bream, salmon and snapper. A bit tired now but it's done a great job over the last 4 years and it hasn't been in for a service yet.
