I was at Bunkers yesterday and there were quite a few schools..

Fish were being caught at sunrise but after that the fish shut down, still schools going through the bay though.

 Friday the fish were going

Mon, 2014-03-31 07:40

Friday the fish were going off with schools cruising up and down the bay all day.

Only three guys on the beach cleaning up. Definately not to early one of the best starts I have seen for a few years.

Well

your wrong mate. Plenty of crew eat em, me included.

If treated correctly after capture they're perfectly fine to eat fresh.

They will never be of the class of any demersal but fine for a feed.

How do you dispose of them

Mon, 2014-03-31 15:10

How do you dispose of them Matt? Standard spike, bleed and on ice or is there more to it?

We got into a few yesterday and normally release but wouldn't mind giving one a crack to see how it goes.

Yeah pretty much

Mon, 2014-03-31 15:27

but try to get as much of the blood out of them as possible.

Then when filletting cut all the dark meat out (very important) and slice into 10mil thick chunks.

Not for everyone but for those of us that don't mind eating other 'fishy' stuff like Herring, Tailor, Skippy they are more than edible.

Wal you are spoilt u should give them a try. They are great done in the smoker,we vac seal them after and use them in salads etc. I went for a trip down to Dunsborough last Wednesday, didnt see a salmon but had fun with a shark for 20 mins or so until it broke me off, might have to take some heavier gear down later in the week.
