Salmon/Tuna Report
New to forums. Always browsed but never made an account. Just a hello message and to let you know I work on a mullie boat in Bremer Bay and if i'm not fishing on that i'm fishing on the beach/rocks etc
Not so many salmon around right now seen a few 10-20 tonne schools around. But skipjack tuna by the boat load. Lots of fun to catch but not good eating so i've heard never tried it myself! Apparently my skipper told me they have changed their migration pattern and hit bremer for the last few years. Lots of them around right now we got heaps in our net yesterday and they are ruining our mulies chasing them around! But I can keep you guys updated on salmon etc as soon as I catch / see them I can let you know. As i'm sure everyone is as anxious to catch some as me!
Look forward to becoming a regular on the forums!
- EDIT
Masses of salmon around Bremer right now cannot stop catching them stay tuned for pics/vids. THEY ARE HERE!
Added one picture taken on phone just to give an idea of average size
EDIT 4pm 07-04
Salmon everywhere main schools have arrived. season is in full swing having a ball catching them down here! easter weekend beaches are packed here. I'm working morning on the boat and night at the bar no time to throw in a line this weekend but will make up for it mid week! Have to be doing something very wrong not to catch one. Best beach at the moment is Back Beach down by the AB farm. But like i said they are everywhere! tight lines all

Whale shark
Yeah whale shark is a strange one. It was my skippers mate who spotted it. Haven't seen any mackies around(yet)! I've not long moved here to Bremer 4 months. I'm actually from Scotland been in OZ 2 years. Got myself a sponsorship on a fishing boat so going to hang around for good! Plenty mulies here mate. Get them cheap if you buy direct from us at the factory. 4 a Kilo(More you buy cheaper it gets) and they are generous Kilos at that, and fresh as they come usualy caught that day/few days before. Come at the right time you can get them unfrozen too. Been hard into my fishing since i got here. If i'm not working i'm fishing!
Cheers

Mulie
You sound like a very handy man to have on the forum. Top stuff. Skipjack is okay - best to fillet and leave in the fridge overnight to firm up. Soy, wasabi and down the hatch.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

Hey guys thanks for the kind words! Been out all day fishing. got a massive load of good size mulies x2! Plenty free bait could work out a deal if anyone invites me out if they are down here as i'm land based at the moment (not for too long i hope) . Not much happening today. Few tuna around nothing like yesterday but i could see them whizzing around the boat while we were bringing in the net. Haven't had any time latley to drop a line as flat out on fishing boat mon-fri and i picked up work in local pub fri/sat nights. so if anyone is down and in for a beer come say hello! I'm going to be here a while. Will keep you guys updated when I see anything interesting or anything out of the ordinary. Lots of squid here at the moment along with plague proportions of bull herring. Me and 3 friends got 128 in about 1 1/2 hour's the other night. Part from that nothing out of the ordinary. Cannot wait to get a salmon. I saw the world record on IGFA website is 8.7 kilos? But i've heard storys of 12KG+? or are they fish tales???
Cheers
Ben

Not sure myself
I've personally seen 2 salmon go over the 9kg mark, 7kg+ is quite common at the start of a usual season.
Be interesting to hear what sort of sizes the commercial guys have come across.

Before or after?
Have seen heaps around the 8kg mark and a few go in to the nines AFTER taking about 2kg of mulies out of them. Biggest number of mulies taken out of a salmon was 14, couldn't believe it could fit so many in.

They have arrived
Salmon are here in Bremer Bay! Hit the other boats net a good 20 tonne school. Ripped it to bits thank god it wasn't us! But we did have the joy of trolling a lure on the way back and getting into some nice 6kg models. First run in i've seen with the salmon but my skipper tells me it's just the start of it! Going down to the beach to see if i can get into some on light spinning gear! But they are defo here could see them swimming under boat and all around! Heading Cheynes beach south of albany on fri night fishing through till sat morning. Going to try get into a bronzie and heaps of salmon i hope! Finally got a few days off work. WIll let you all know how that goes cheers guys!!

Last year they hung around
Last year they hung around till August. So i'm sure you'll get into some. Supposed to be loads at Cheynes just now. Bremer is bubbling with salmon off the beach or rocks doesn't really matter. I Just have a little heads up as i know where the mulies are and the salmon follow them so i know roughly where they are going to be most of the time. Guys catching a few bronzies around the area not more than usual though. I have a few good spots when i get a night off i'll be sure to hit them up and see what's around

Fish on
Didint bring my camera with me but i'm going back to the same spot tomorrow and i'lll take a few pics/a vid if i can it's hard as i'm going solo. But will show you what i mean by cannot-not catch a fish if it's anything like it was the other day. Rediculous amount of fish there. didint even have time to retrieve the lure most of the time soon as it hit the water i was on. Most of the fish were 4KG+ biggest came in around 6-7KG thats just a guess as i didin't take my pocket hanger with me. Will this time expect some good pics/vids tomorrow ill update onto the post.

My uncle went to cheynes beach on Saturday hoping to catch some salmon but caught zero lol
he said no one was catching anything except a lady who hooked on a small stingray.
The commercial fisherman was setting up their net though. He said maybe there is a school coming in but he didn't wait to find out as it was getting late.

hey guys just got back from
hey guys just got back from pemberton way for the weekend with a bunch of guys lookin for some aripus trutta but wasnt in full swing yet. we ended up with 28 salmon biggest to 8kg but average was around 4kgish and surprisingly not that many herring and the ones we did get were pretty small! for most sunday morning we could see birds working behind the breakers but the schools never came in just one or two fish at a time. but our last fish was a surprise capture...a 60+cm tailor which was mistaken by the angler who caught it until a second look confirmed our theory!

Nanarup
Sorry lureattack it was at nanarup on the Friday afternoon( nursing a hangover) from about 15:00. There was a handfull of us on the beach. My mate was the first one to hook up. While I was helping him my rod went off. We were fishing to the left of the entrance onto the beach. Lasted about an hour and a half. By then the beach was packed with people

Was a hot sesh snipesleher. We rocked up as the first fish were hooked and proceeded to get over a dozen each. We were just to the left of where you drive onto the beach too, in the white Prado. Couldn't believe how many fish moving in and out of the gutter, and every cast with the Roosta popper had them tracking it down with gusto. Made up for the nil result on salmon last year.

White 120 series Prado
Hi Bigbadbusting. Do you drive a 150 series. My Prado (120 series white) was packed up amongst the cars on the edge of the hard section of the beach. My mate was the first to hook up. I was still coaching him as it was his first salmon when my rod loaded up with a fish.Sure did make up for last year.We had planned a trip to Albany last year when a week before Easter I had a head on colision with my 95 series on the way to work.
Regards

Snipes - yeh was in my mates
Snipes - yeh was in my mates (pretty sure his handle on fw is percula?) white 150 series. Good move staying on the hard stuff, we spent a few hours that weekend digging the 150 series out of the soft stuff.
Loved seeing all the other unsuspecting people getting owned by some of the fat mutha salmon. Then the funniest was a group of tourists who persisted to fish in the inlet the whole time not even aware of the chaos 50m away.

Yeah it was fish a cast action for the whole weekend around the point where the rocks are. The beaches fished pretty well if you could get behind the breakers.

But dissapointed was looking forward to getting into some fish on my day off!!!!!! Didn't try any of the big beaches just some spots off the rocks that usualy don't fail me. Will try again tomorrow if i get time!

Took my cuzins who came down from Sydney yesterday for a fish at cheynes. Still plenty around. Using metal on the rocks it was heated session. A guy caught a big sambo in the morning there.
Lunch time we sat near the grass area at the beach and saw a school of salmon swimming up and down really close. Cast some unweighted mulies and basically hooked on straight away. Awesome fun. We caught 30+ salmon but only took home 1 each as there's no room in the boot.
awesome fun!
