Sanctuary Waters
There are signs at the "secret lake" where some "different fish" have been caught recently by some of the young anglers on this site.Fisheries/university "people" electro fished the lake and found some surprises thanks to the young blokes. There will be an interesting discussion on 882 6PR "boat dive and fishing show" on Saturday morning.Could be some very interesting "talks". I walked around the lake this afternoon and found 2 of these signs one on a bridge and one near a circular raised garden.
I don't post much up to the site but I would like some comments from the FW anglers about who can control where we fish and who enforces the access or whatever on public open spaces namely ornamental lakes on housing estates.

Sorry state of affairs
If you are allowed to do it today, I'll make up a by-law and make sure you can't do it tomorrow. Fair dinkum the way councils and town bodies are going it will soon be against some rule to smile. My dear old Dad (now deceased) said to me way back,"son if they can they will think up a tax to put on you for breathing they will" he was joking. Thank hell he never saw the introduction of the green house tax, I think he would be turning in his grave when that was thought up.
Now, back to the no fishing sign, ask your local council member why not

Typically Public Open Space
Typically Public Open Space on housing estates are reserves for recreation, fishing is a form of recreation so I cant see how you can be breaking any law. These reserves are vested with the local shires so they manage them but they cant change the purpose for what the land was set aside for. Your best bet would be to contact Landgate and check with them that this area of Public Open Space has a land use of recreation and if it does then I would go fishing as the signs are nothing more than just a bluff.

silly question, but now that
silly question, but now that fishing is banned there, is it ok to ask where it is/was? and what is electro fishing? excuse the ignorance pls lol.
if you can still "technically" fish there as its a recreational hobby, and someone catches you...just tell them your feeding the fish with a line because they have teeth and you dont want to get bitten lol
Good things come to those who bait.

Lol it's too hard keeping spots to myself but I don't try to either. Any spot that I go to has already been fished. Apart from one spot near castledare

Agree with you slugger
The kids should be confined to indoor activities like, playing computer games, watching the paint dry, playing computer games, watching violent movies on the tv, playing violent video games. Hell we don't want them to enjoy the outdoors and nature they might even get to like it. Then were would we be, there would be thousands of fit and health kids playing games in the great outdoors. You can just see what problems they would cause kicking footballs in parks playing soccer or cricket with there mates. They might even take up a team sport then where would we be.
No if the kids are to go outdoors they should be made to stick to outdoor activities like vandalism and painting crap every were so that people are employed to clean it up. Hell I wish I was a kid again I look back at all the time I wasted playing cricket in the front yard or street, kicking a football around at the local oval, what a waisted youth I had.
Ohh and I forgot I could go fishing in the local swamp (we didn't have landscaping or estates) you just went to the local swamp or road side drain and caught a couple of carp yabbies and whatever then paddled a home made canoe which you had made out of corrugated iron off some old fence or roof.
Glory days at their best.

Has anyone contacted the council to get their reasoning? Would be interesting to see what they say.

I would say the only reason
I would say the only reason they put those signs up is because the local residents (the rate payers) would have complained. Once word got out that there were big fish like Murray Cod and Perch in there every man and his dog would have been fishing the place and going by the pics I saw on facebook some pretty impressive fish were caught, Cod which at least equalled the ones that Fisheries/Murdoch Uni electrofished. Not surprising really that native Australian fish do well in Australian conditions.

Illegal
It's not a new thing guys it's been illegal for ever to fish these lakes.. Always has been always will be.. Why because there are to many do gooder greeny muppets in WA I guess.
And before anyone calls me out on it.. I have been warned a couple of times and I have a heap of mates of all ages who have been fined.. Including one in his 50s who took it to court and lost..

Yeah I say don't even bother
Yeah I say don't even bother trying to change it. You get lots of people telling you off and some shout and chase. It also gets a little awkward with the amount of people staring at yeah it's a fairly hostile place

It would be interesting
I think it would be damned interesting to get a written reason from the council on why you can't catch a fish that is declared vermin (carp). It's one thing to say you can't fish there because blah blah blah, it is quite another thing for some one to commit there signature to a written statement about the matter that can be held up to scrutiny.
First rule of survival when working for a government body, never put your name to anything that can be held up for examination in the light of day and not kept behind closed doors.

I'm pretty sure it's because
I'm pretty sure it's because they don't want any one getting hooked it's the same as your not ment to hit golf balls around them areas too it's a hazard and don't jump on me for saying it it's just what I've been told and it is true it's been illegal from the start it hasn't changed they would have put the sign up so you can't say I didn't know you can't fish there

Just a follow up on the golf
Just a follow up on the golf hitting thing. Is it illegal to hit gold balls off Blackwall reach at kayakers? Thats what happened to us so we started casting sinkers at them

Spot on
Spot on Ben the reason I have been told and my mates also is that by fishing there you are endangering the life's of others useing the park same reason you can't do any water activitys there. Complete bull shit but that's life in Perth. Wish I was still in contact with the my mate who went to court about it because he had letters before it went to court and on one of the letters it said something like he was a danger to society.. Haha 50 year old man with a morgage and lovely family just trying to fish a pond for a carp....hhhhmmmm think that was a bit of a harsh.. But having plenty of money after that he said F it and took it to court. Only to lose but it was the principal..
I still fish pond and always will but all I'm saying is no matter what some people tell you it is illegal for some shit reason and if your going to do it just do it on the down low and you should be fine..
