GoPro Hero4 silver - anybody use one?

Gday just got one of these from the Mrs as a gift .Ive never used one before and Im planning to capture footage while fishing out on the boat this summer. I got a 32GB SDcard with it also. Was thinking of mounting it on the overhead rod holders to film over the back of the boat.  Any tips from go pro users would be great like what settings to use it on, should i get other mounts that are available etc   cheers dave

I got one in october last

I got one in october last year and I love it.I mainly use it underwater and run it on 1080 and 47 fps which is all you can get when set to pal.I set it to instant on for video.

One thing you need to check is that your computer can handle the video properly. On older computers the video playback can be very jerky and if this is the case you will have to back off the resolution of the gopro.

I love mine I got for

I love mine I got for Christmas. Perfectly clear. Use 1080p because it makes it really clear. I like my chest mount, head mount and if you were videoing from the front of the boat, a suction cup mount is good and also a floaty back door incase you drop it

I'm waiting on one of these

I'm waiting on one of these as a replacement for my Hero 3 Black that died, heard nothing but good things about them so far.
The inbuilt screen will be a lifesaver too, missed so many shots with my old gopros being set a a slight wrong angle.

Accessories

I have a Gopro 4 Black and love it. The best part is the remote that come with it. If it did not come with one get one. Will be handy if mounted on the boat as it has a LCD screen to show you what you camera is doing and you can change the setting etc.

Also buy your accessories on Ebay. I purchase the head and chest strap for about $12 each and the suction cup for $16. You pay about $60 in the shops for each. Purchase a spare battery as well.

Also if taking photos you need to be close to the subject as I found through trial & error.

All I can say is spend sometime using it and getting use to how it works.

I concure on the statement about the computer but i have found that by downloading the video the computer works a little better.

Great Camera

I use the GoPro quite extensively. Upgraded to the Hero4 Silver - Christmas gift from the missus. On 4k setting it chews the memory, but delivers great resolution. Make sure that your computer can handle it though when editing. I use the Windows Movie Maker for editing purposes - very intuitive. Movie Maker can be downloaded here - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-live/movie-maker
Looking forward to your fishing adventures on YouTube.

I'd use the GoPro Studio

Tue, 2015-02-03 12:18

I'd use the GoPro Studio video editing software available free on the Gopro website--you can do a LOT more with it than you can the WMM. WMM has more options for fancy titles and transitions, but it ends there. Change saturation, tone, exposure, apply presets, get the fisheye out of it. yes, and 1080 resolution. And it also does the timelapses very easily--just load the whole file of stills and it does the rest
It's not hard to learn--I once used WMM a lot, never touch it now.

+1 for ranmar850's

+1 for ranmar850's recomendation for GoPro Studio. You can have some using the standard templates as well. The music and cuts are already there you simply drop your clips in. There's templates using 4, 5 and 40 or so clips:  http://gopro.com/studio-templates-download#/vid_modal_8

Then after a while once you have some more footage you can use the the mother of all templates, the hero reel with 127 takes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=A3PDXmYoF5U

For tips and tricks for using your GoPro check out MicBergsma https://www.youtube.com/user/micbergsma even if just to watch his cool channel trailer, a must if your a dog lover.

Another good channel is Kyle Martin's GoRpo tips and tricks https://www.youtube.com/user/kylemartn101

Just a tip with your accessories - grab some Super Glue or Araldyte and put a dab on all the silver nuts where they are seated in the plastic. After a while they tend to fall out when you put your thumb screw in. Murphy's law will insist that this happens when your on the beach or standing in long grass and it's gone.

Hope this helps.
