Starlink Questions

Hey all.
Just came across the Starlink Mini and am thinking about pulling the trigger.
I’d previously looked into the standard unit but $140/month is a bit much for something that would be ‘nice to have’. I’d consider it if I could just replace my home FTTP at $130/month and take it with me when going on holidays but it’s not available in the Perth Metro area in any case.
Main thing I want is to get wifi when on holidays but also mobile coverage when driving around down south etc and camping where mobile coverage drops out. I am especially keen to ensure I have mobile coverage when fishing Metro out-wide as Telstra gets real patchy around the 12nm mark.
• The website says 12nm limit out to sea but has anyone tried the SL Mini in Metro waters and how far out can you get coverage?
• Has anyone used the SL Mini in remote areas and how was the connection?
• Can I order the SL standard for my brother’s address in Denmark and just use it at home or change the service address to my address or will it just become a paper weight in Perth?
Cheers JF

Starlink
Hi Jack,
I bought a re-furbed standard unit about a year ago for holidays up north. I think there are two types of subscriptions. The cheaper subscription is residential but that has to be used in the same location (eg home) and is ongoing. For holiday trips you need the roam subscription which is $195/month (unlimited Data) but you can disable/pause it for as long as you like between trips and it won't cost anything.
The trick is that when you first activate it (say 15th January) that is the set day of the month for any future re-activations. So if you re-activate on say the 1st March make sure you've paused it before the 15th March so the cost will be pro-rata'd to about ~$100. But if your holiday runs from the 10th March to the 17th March and you want to use it for the last 2 days you'll get slugged the full $195 for the last 2 days as you won't be able to pause it until the following month (15th April) plus whatever the prorata'd cost from the 10th to the 15th. It's all in their fine print on their website and I believe there is Starlink Facebook group that has heaps of info as well.
The roam subscription now allows you to use it motion so you could mount it to your car or trailer and use it while driving. You'll need a power inverter as it runs off 240V only. Never used it offshore.
In holiday towns in peak season Starlink is great because while you might have full 4g/5g mobile signal/coverage everyone in town is on their tablets & phones and the bandwidth is rubbish causing slow internet. Starlink is completely independant to this and generally works better the more remote you are.
Hope that helps. Cheers.

I have it Frosty and they
I have it Frosty and they have now offered me a 50gig roaming option for $80 month pro rata as matches mentioned above. Particularly good at the Bird during peak times when the Telstra network gets swamped and slows down.
Take it to Gnaraloo had 3 other users streaming off it watching the footy while we were up there. The only against is the size of it and packing it away.
Love the West!

I thought going on a holiday was to get away from all the tech BS? No phone no Tv and peace and quite.
