I've used them baitcasting for Cobia with good success. They have a bit more weight behind them for a cast than a scalie mackerel. Got a decent spangled emperor once too. I figure most fish can't tell which fish are what, but nothing gets wasted in the food chain.
I've good success with taking up sand whiting frames. I do a quick fillet to eat, but try to miss the ribcage as much as possible. It does waste some of the meat, but I end up with a mostly whole whiting for bait. A single 8/0 through the head and down she goes. Store them up through the year, it cuts down on bait costs for the trip.

Yep, pretty much all we buy
Yep, pretty much all we buy for bait up north. That and fresh strip baits of whatever you catch. Reds love a hezza frame for some reason.
