scaling bags - do they work?

I have never used a scaling bag, the ones you put your catch in and tow behind the boat on the way in.
Are they effective?
Are they probe to attack by the taxman?
Do they work on bigger fish? snapper etc?

Work well on smaller fish like whiting and squid as well Randall. We chuck squid in then run it for a few minutes pull it in take heads off and turn the tubes inside out and run it again. Come out clean and tender.
Don't think big fish will work as they wont roll around in the bag enough for it to rub the scales off

so whiting, yes. small emporer? like 32+cm blue lined emporer? not so sure on the bigger scaled fish like snapper and baldie??

I put 10 at a time just incase it opens you don't loose all your catch.
works a treat
just wip 2 fillets of em when i get home and job done.
there is no difference in the 20 buck ones vs the 6 buck ones.

Great for whiting a smallish
Great for whiting a smallish fish - get the $20 one I' know a few cheap ones have failed - trick is to get it sitting on the front of the first wake wave so it rolls and tumbles.
-Oh and don't put any fish in that are right on the limit - they'll lose a bit of the tail and be under if measured at the ramp

I was using mine today on
I was using mine today on some king George and thought the same thing after looking at was left of the tales, works a treat, quite a few were 40 - 45cm and scaled up well, one also lost its head.
also in relation to another post they were all caught in Middleton bay in albany

Have used one a few times for whiting. Worked really well except the one time when it ripped somehow and we found ourselves scooping floating fish off the surface with a landing net.
