Scary moment for the boat near us
Submitted by uncle on Wed, 2018-09-26 07:23
Bj and I were outside of the sound yesterday arfo, there was a boat about 100 m away. He came over just before dark to tell us he'd had a great white smash into the back of his boat.you could see where the guard rail was bent. He was a bit rattled.

that would be a scary
that would be a scary experience for sure. heard about it on the radio today but was a bit sceptical about jumping into the boat and jumping out as the report said. launching onto the side of the boat more feesable and could see it happening . certainly wouldnt be reaching over the side for the fish

Thought it would have been a Mako doing crazy shit like that.

This was my next door neighbour and my mate
The shark launched out of the water and landed on the transom, hitting the motor and crushing the guard rail on the starboard side.
It then rolled over onto the starboard gunwale, flashed its teeth, stared James in the eye, and flipped off into the water. Did not land in the boat.
I saw the damage to the boat, this was legit. James is an experienced fisherman over decades and has seen many Great Whites in the water and around the boat.
After speaking with James(i have fished with him many times) he estimated it to be a Great White around 2.5 to 3m long.
If it was a tinny or a yak, it may not have been a happy ending...

Thanks uncle
It was me and the big guy it happen to.IT WAS OUT THERE I am mostly thinking of the small boats that over the next few weeks that will be going out to chase pinkies.
This was real it left the water about 1 meter from the starboard side damaged the top of the motor bent a 38mm rail on the port side slide up the gunnel thrashed around and thank f..k ended up out side not in side of the boat This in my opinion was no mistake it would have taken you out in a small boat for the guys in kayaks good luck

It was only a matter of time
Sadly but as predicted when you get a couple of fools tormenting a GW with pinkies as shown on ch7 a couple of weeks ago, the outcome was predictable.
Boat stops, dinner bell rings, and Mr GW comes up rather fast to investigate ooops over shot things a bit and lands on edge of boat. Very lucky no one was hurt.
