Scrapping old outbaords

We recently had a new outboard fitted and the guy who changed it has our old outboard (1980s Johnson Seahorse 100hp) I am just wondering what is the best thing to do with these now, some people have said that you can get money back from scrap metal etc. It would be great to get even a little cash back to offset the cost of the new engine.

What have people done in the past, how much have you got for scrap? Cheers.

You might get up to a couple of hundred selling it to a wrecker, depending on if it is running or not?

probably better off than a scrap metal yard.

There is an outboard wrecker

There is an outboard wrecker in the metro area somwhere. Give them a call.

Or if its still in working condition you may get a better price if you sell it as a working unit.

Any of the scrap dealers will pay you for it but to get top dollar you have to separate all the steel from the ali, bolts, nuts crank and driveshafts plus cylinder barrel.

So it depends on how industrious you are.

Thanks for the replies. No it was pretty much buggered and lost all compression and wouldnt get near starting up.

Does anyone have contact details for the metro outboard wrecker I have google'd but cannot seem to find one!

Carnarvonite I wouldnt be great with my hands but one of the other guys might be able to seperate if it means we will get higher $$

Try All-Safe Marine in Rockingham 9527 5260, Noel White, they are into outboard wrecking and may be interested.

 Try taking it to pieces

Try taking it to pieces yourself.

It will give you a better understanding about how they work & that knowledge could save your arse one day.
