 Don't know much about them, but would be well worth getting an outboard mech to do all the usual checks, compression, zinc nodes etc

thought that’s not bad value for a four stroke. Second thought was four strokes shouldn’t be lying on its side like that , should be standing up as the oil in the sump runs up through the valves and doesn’t do them any favours. As for replacing 90 two stroke with a 90 four stroke , you will loose top speed and hole shot, if your ok with that then go for it. But 115hp four stroke is about the equivalent of a 90 two stroke. Only my opinion but.

hole shot comment I agree

hole shot comment I agree with - but not the 115hp 4stroke is equivalent to 90hp 2 stroke
90hp = 90 hp.....
you will only loose top speed if you run it at lower revs - as for that motor in particular - as others have pointed out - its cheap but I suspect you may be buying someone elses problem -

Either

i don’t agree with either of those 2 statements.

All 4 strokes I’ve owned and been on, have equal or better hole-shot AND top end, and that’s like-for-like (50hp 4 stroke vs 50hp 2 stroke, etc).

 I wonder how he's "starting

 I wonder how he's "starting and running it easily" since 2011?
Could be a bargain but unless your mechanically minded Id probably avoid.

Once you have to pay someone else to check it and replace all the parts that should be replaced (impellor, anodes, filters, plugs etc) it gets less of a bargain.
If you can do it yourself then all good.
I actually thought those were 2 stroke, but I know very little about Mercs

i had one of these re badged Yamaha/ mercury 90 hp 4 bangers on the back of my original ocean whaler, that motor was an 08 vintage and to be honest it was bullet proof ! If it checks out ok that’s a bargain even if you had to throw $500-600 at it.
