Serial numbers on Stellas

How clever (not) are Shimano - they now include serial numbers on their current series of stellas but that is the only place the number actually appears (not on the box, guarantees or anything else) no wonder the theives dont give a stuff because unless you have photographed it to evidence ownership you cannot prove it is yours

Come on Shimano get your act into gear

is there not even a space for

is there not even a space for serial number on the warranty card? sounds pretty bad.

I would imagine that most decent retailers would take the serial number down with you personal details at the time of purchase though.

EDIT: and FWIW. It takes about 20mins once a year taking a photo or two and storing ofsite of anything decent you own for insurance purposes.

When I bought my Stella SWB, there was a little tear off tab on the box with a serial number that got recorded with my details at the store and the box has a sticker at the bottom with the serial no. and details too.

Where abouts is the serial number on the reel located?  TBH haven't really looked for it.

Why not engrave your drivers license number on all of your high end stuff then photograph alonside the current newspaper as your record.

Fine unless you ever want to sell the thing!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

But that

But that dosn't help the tackle shops that seem to be the biggest target for these thieves. For that sort of money there should be a way to trace them.

I bought a set top box from Dick Smith for $ 5.00 , it had a serial number and a waranty that was registered through the store. Just saying ...

Drivers licence particulars on reel and stuff

Thu, 2014-03-27 17:52

If you engrave your drivers licence number on your high end gear, when you sell it you are supposed to put the letter "s" I think it is after the licence number. I'm not sure about the letter a quick check with the local law will put you on the correct track. Well worth the effort I think and put it where it can be readily seen to act as a deterrent, hopefully.
