serious question on fishing
There are lots of reasons people go out fishing and they dont realy know the reason they like it. sit back for a moment and think about the true reason you go fishing weather its on a boat or from the shore....For me its a couple of reasons, getting away into your own little world for a while away from it all, and the chance to actually get out there and catch your own fresh fish for the dinner plate, i know it would be cheaper in the long run to just go and buy some but i spose its the old hunter gatherer thing. also its a chance more so now that its a chance to go out with my wife and or family to spend some quality time together while forgetting about everything else for a while.

i do it because...
my grandad first started to take me fishing when i was only 4-5ish, i really enjoy it now becuase i am always doing it with a real good bunch of people, i guess its also the "thrill of the chase" getting that bbig one. I enjoy getting away from the parents and just talking sh*t for a few hours. I also relish the fact that my family are proud when i bring home some fish to the table especially a prized catch.
and that is why i enjoy fishing
happy fishing

I just love the rush of the spool screaming and also the challenge of a new area finding spots working out tides and what gets the fish bitting, but I think we all enjoy seeing a great fish being landed whether it be our own or someone else’s. And lately I’ve really started liking spear fishing I like that because of the risk factor I suppose. Being 15m deep and spearing a fish and realizing you still have to get back up.

Away from Everything and always in Expectation
After a week at work all I want to do is get in the 4x4 and head off somewhere. I keep an eye on the reports and try to target specific species. I always have a fall-back plan and hardly ever go home without something to show. My dog just loves the freedom and the sense of involvement and he settles for a few days after a good trip.
Travelling to remote spots offers complete tranquility for me and now and again, I meet some really nice people who seem to share the same passions for "being out there". I struggle these days with a chronic bad back but he pain is worth it to me. I generally know about it for a few days if I need to get out the big gear like yesterday.
Another thing that gets me going is making up that perfect rig on a rainy day and the subsequent urge to go out there and try it out or lose it on some damn piece of coral that wasn't there yesterday. LOL.
Cheers,
Vince.

Life
Life can get pretty predictable at times, but thats what i enjoy about the water! You never know what the day is going to bring you. That little rush you get when you first hook up to a fish.
Also, i grew up in a country town to the age of 23 and was 260kms from the water. Being kept away from the water all that time, i have some time to make up.
Oh and spending quailty time out on the water with my wifey

I think you've all said it
apart from catching fishing, I just love the sea, tranquil, love to see nature at its best, catching fish is good also and the thought I might just out catch Bob is a bonus, but usually the most important for me is peace and quiet, no radio, ambulance sirens/police sirens, idiots doing doughnuts around the area, just peace. Been fishing with Dad on the beach since I could walk, now I know why he loved fishing so much, it wasn't the catch, the catch for him was the peace and quiet and spending time with his two daughters.

Definately love fishing
Definately love fishing because it takes me away from everything stressful! Takes you to some of the most beautiful places! Grew up in Walpole until I was 15 so pretty much couldnt' avoid the addiction to fishing.
Now I look forward to escaping the stress of city life and hopefully bringing home a healthy feed of fish rather than fast food!

The smell of the ocean or the river
The feeling of the wind on my face and the sun on my back, but most importantly its the feeling that my next cast is going to connect me up to a dream capture. That's what I rteally enjoy about fishing.

Yes Colin I forgot the smell of the ocean, wind on your
face, even the smell of seaweed ugh, watching the birds eating the maggots out of the seaweed, then the sting rays swimming past, quickly winding in so he doesn't get a taste of my bait. The only thing I'll miss from the beach is our little dog, we had to put her down in June, I'll miss her constant barking everytime I cast out or bring in a fish, miss her trying to eat the fish that I just caught, RIP Penny my little fishing buddy.

Sorry to hear about your friend Roberta
That is always a sad loss.
I have to say that I don't miss the smell of the rotting weed.

Love the uncertainty
we spend so much of our lives trying to be in CONTROL
CONTROL our finances
CONTROL our weight
CONTROL our children
When i go fishing , im at the mercy of the fish, are they hungry ,am i in the right place, have i got the right bait, rigs . Are the tides right, is the moon phase right, and so it goes on. Isnt it great that we arent in CONTROL. Cheers Pete

Too right mate
I study the models but nevert let them dictate. A full moon or a low tide will never put me off when I get the urge to go out.

Anticipation
Not knowing what you have on the end of your line until it breaks or nears the surface.
The thrill of the chase (finding the fish)
Above all for me is the joy I get in seeing a smile on the face of a fellow fisho (be it my kids, my dad or any deckie on my boat)when they get something good.
Cheers

its a great way to stay
its a great way to stay connected to the land.......shoes off sand tween yr toes, salt water in yr eyes= i luv it
bonus is to catch a nice fish and its my way of switching off to the world, bit like meditation, but only when you take friends who know wot they r doing.......i dont like fishing with newbies anymore as its too much responsiblity (rockhoping fishing style here)
and i also think no matter how much we think we are a 'modern man' basically we are still a hunter gatherer species but we have found more expensive ways of doing something simply
