Shark attack off Cape Arid, 180km east of Esperance

Another shark attack this morning, ab diver in his 50s attacked 180km east of Esperance. On his way to Esperance hospital with serious injuries. Will be interesting to hear the details.

ABC lunch time news said that he was lucky that there was another diver in the water at the same time to help him back to the boat.
Ambos are on their way out to pick him up

Greg Pickering they said his name was on the radio a abalone diver , apparently he's going to pull through . Hopefully his injuries aren't too bad . Sending fisheries 180kms east of esperance to find and kill it , I suppose they have to give the impression of doing something .

Professional diver Greg Pickering was bitten on the leg by a shark after trying to help a friend who was being attacked by a 1.5m bronze whaler off Cervantes in WA's north.

He is a very accomplished diver, and over the years has held numerous Aussie and maybe world records for spearfishing..

I hope he recovers quickly..

He was collecting abs on the bottom when the GW hit him from the top, biting his head and shoulders. Very lucky to be alive, praise should go to his decky and to the other divers on a nearby boat who stabilized him and towed his boat to shore. One of the local docs raced out to Condi and met the ambo with bags of blood etc Hope he gets well and gets back in the ocean soon.

Happened off Poison Creek, I've been there and it's a long way from anywhere. I think that fact one of the boats there had a sat phone and they called the ambo's early probably helped save his life.

 Greg is a class 1 free diver. Hope he gets back in the water soon, have some great memories of our dives together including a few shark encounters, get well mate, wishing you all the best mate.
