Dont believe they do

From the limited research I have done the current models are all interchangeable but the new ones use a female plug to connect to the unit and I believe the Freedom 4 uses a male pin arrangement...

if your 7 shark shield is fully charged or not its irrelevent - a big white in full attack mode  is gonna eat you and and shit your shark shield out the next day. I am easily the most passionate swimmer, snorkeller, day and night  scuba diver oceaney person around - you me and anybody else who reads this will almost certainly never gonna get eaten or even be seen by a killer shark just swim, spear, snorkel, dive or surf or whatever you do forget about the sharks - im going off because the f@$#%^n sharks have always been around - its only now that the media have got hold of it and it  arouses our deep primal fears - shit there are suddenly lots of predators cruising our beaches well guess what they were doing that long before we even learnt how to light a fire - just really pissed off cos people i used to dive with suddenly dont dive anymore and they blurt out lots of reasons why but strangely none of the excuses involve GWS's - ok had my whinge nothing personal- on you mate cheers dave

I go agree with beeroclock i do loads of thing things the ocean and i ahve seen many people give up going into the water and i just don't get it

If a shark is hungry and wants a feed it will take anything.

Thousands of people die each year from cars and let's say 6 die from shark attacks each year

We are just going into there teritory what do you expect.

BACK TO THE QUESTION

Sun, 2013-11-03 07:45

Hi Shorty ,

Might be an idea to get in touch with the manufacturer and check the specs as a competent sparky could change the plug (if it is different) and if there is a chance that it will give a shark a second thought before it tastes you ..I say wear it !

my 2c worth haha

Rather be wearing a shark

Sun, 2013-11-03 08:46

Rather be wearing a shark sheild than not wearing one if a big one comes to check you out - 99% of the time they realise your not their normal prey and want a cautious look first.

My thoughts

Sun, 2013-11-03 12:06

I wonder how many of you people who say "when it your time it's your time" or "it wont stop

a shark in full attack mode so why bother with one" how may have wifes and children or grandchildren ?not many I would think and if you do do you say to them when your going for a dive "i may not come home today cos I could get eaten by a shark but it's ok cos when it's your time it's your time" I think maybe you should think of them instead of yourselfs. if theres

a chance of saving your life then why not use one for $600 it's worth it'

Not for me lads it's for a mate. I have a freedom 4 and have only used it a couple of times. My mates been diving for the last 25 plus years and he is getting one. He has dived at Gove, windy harbour and now were mainly off binningup/Preston. Last few dives he has seen 10-12 foot sharks mostly nurses but a couple of bronzies. He said he would never use one ever. Had the same" well if it's my turn it's my turn to go".  Now he wants one, probably one of the best divers I've ever had the pleasure to know. Personnel choice to use or not is your own, but don't rag me/mate for using them just because you don't.

Cheers for the links too guys

FWIW lads, my mate has a friend in south Australia who is a full blown dive with the whites type of guy. Takes people down to see them.He talked to them today and said cancel the shield. Asked why and he said, they have tried a shield after they chummed up and separate days when they didn't do anything at all, each time the white came up and banged on the cage with no shoo factor from the shield at all. They do it for a living and they don't use one. Personnel preferance I guess, but it's sort of confirms it to me, they won't stop a big dharma if they want a feed. It's not a serum or anything, just passing on a message from my mate.

Chum

Mon, 2017-12-18 16:10

apart from spearos I don’t think many divers are chumming up, which probably does the impact the effectiveness of the shield, ie sharks are generally cautious unless in a feeding frenzy which chumming puts them into.

personal choice though I always wear mine on ocean dives for my family and my own peace of mind.

i haven’t seen a shark since I have been diving with one but consider it to be a likely proposition one day and hopefully it gives me enough time to take evasive action

A bit puzzeld

Mon, 2017-12-18 16:24

I';m not a diver, ok but it seems to me if you wind up a gw by feeding it and getting it into a feeding frame of mind it is going to take a hell of a lot to take it's mind of food.
Yes I have read that on some days you didn't offer any chum at all, but the site of the cage being associated with a feed could well prompt the GW to bang on the cage to get you to give it a feed.

I don't believe there is anything on this earth that will save you if "your time is up", be it a car with umpteen air bags or be you in a tank, nothing in life is guaranteed IMO.
So why expect it from a shark shield, from what I have read they (the makers) do not guarantee that you will not be eaten by a GW, what they say is that with a shark shield operating your chances of being eaten are markedly reduced.

Now if you wear a wet suit that is black like a seal, use split flippers that look like a seals flippers, you for all intent and purposes are a seal.

If I was in a jungle and a lion walked past I would take prudent measures to keep me out of his way, IMO same with GWs.
I would not hold my breath thinking that they will bring in a cull or other drastic measures to reduce their number in the near future. The government has made plenty of dollars available to peps so the can purchase a shark shield at a reduced rate to change from that track is to admit that providing shark shield money was a fail effort is not on the horizon that I can see.

Don't think that I'm an anti diver type, I'm not it's just the way I see things at the moment, I wish you safe diving over the Christmas break and long into the future.

Try explaining that side of the story to the villagers in Africa that get knocked off by lions because of their protection.
