this same question was asked

this same question was asked on another website this week. They are good cheap jigging reels really. cost 220 can hold a lot of line, strong enough for big sambo's. I've just had a look at a few this week. there is definitely better out there but you're not gonna go wrong if you get one

You gotta be in it to win it

Probably Shimano's best

Probably Shimano's best value reel ever. Definately surpasses the Penn Spinfishers (especially the current SSM's!!)

great reel for the money, argueably the best in the price range. The upgrades - while they are good, arent that neccesary, seen some stock spheros's go on for years and 100's of fish with no probs . But i suppose for peice of mind ;)

Spheros vs Stradic

Fri, 2006-12-29 07:07

Was planning to buy a Shimano Stradic 2500FH before the New Year but this thread has me reconsidering. How does the Stadic compare with the Spheros given they are close in price and do a similar type of job? The Stadic comes with a spare spool which is a bonus.

Stradic comes in sizes from 1000 to 8000, so only really ideal for light - medium spinning. Spheros comes in 8000, 12000 & 14000 sizes so is suitable for heavier applications, ie sambo jigging.

You said you were looking at a 2500 size stradic, spheros doesn't have a model comparable to that.

Hey Jay

Thanks for your comment Jay. Will stick with the stradic as I can't see myself mixing it with the samboes in the short term - looking to chase KG's at Rotto next week.

I have a spheros 12000fa and seems to be a strong enough reel.Has handled the sambo,s with no trouble. Only problem im having is the braid seems to run off the bail arm roller on a bad angle and jumps out of the groove on the roller completly. Then it seems to be fraying the braid up wich isnt good. Took it back to the shop and had it checked out with no explanation. Put the reel on some different rods and it still does the same thing. checked out the new reels and they all do the same. Has anyony had this problem and how did you solve it.

Jay, they do make a smaller size. I looked at a 6000 size at oceanside last week. I have also seen a 4000 size.
