Hi guys.
Just bought myself a shimano catana overhead rod 12' 6oz. Will that be a good combination with the torium 30?
Cheers

Not trying to be smart, but
Not trying to be smart, but wouldn't it have been a better idea to ask before you purchased it? I guess now that you have already bought it the best idea would be to go down and try it for yourself. There would be no better judge than actually someone using it. I have the 10' heavy with a tld25 as a balloon outfit and seems to work fine. From photos, it also looks like chrisfish used your combo to slay those big sharks down south.

That's cool
Did browse around on other forums to see what the guys had to say and to be honest all of them told me its a good rod. Just wanted to double check.
Thanks for the comment

Rod
Not my type of rod , to short to soft and u need extensions made to your arms to be able to reel in unless u stick the rod between your legs - over heads need to have a short butt .

typical seth efrican ;) 13'
typical seth efrican ;) 13' low mount overhead rods! I prefer it midway. The TMS's are just a little bit too long to comfortably fish with. I do like the feel of the Saltiga Ballistics Surfs, very nice.... but youd hope so for $600!

O well
Will give it a go I'm use to fish with rods with the longer extension use to fish for carp back in south Africa so all my rods had power buts on them. Both it from a tackle shop in balcatta (not bcf)

Shimano catana
The shimano catana is a overhead rod wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't. Was looking at other rods but the availability is almost zero and there is no way I'm importing one from south Africa. They are crazy at the moment with their fright costs.

Great rod for the big stuff
Great rod for the big stuff at its price, you will get over the high mount very quickly, I got mine converted to low mount and is heaps better now and was fairly cheap to, the torium 30 will be fine on it and a great cheap slidbaiting combo. I have a 50 on mine but either 30 or 50 will work fine just the 50 is a pain to cast.
always looking for a new challenge!!

Catana is a good rod
But the high mount will be awkward. high mount o/h vs spin is different. let us know how it works

Went for a cast today
Hi guys.
Went out for a cast today at one of the local parks in my area with the shimano catana o/h rod and shimano torium 30. First casted with a 4oz weight and got a distance of about 100m then switched over to a 5oz weight. With the extra length on the but I could put more power in to the cast made a estimate cast of around 130m.
Will see next weekend what it does in the surf.
Cheers
