Shimano Torsa vs Talica
Submitted by J Déjà Vu on Thu, 2017-09-28 21:11
Have the option to either purchase a new talica 16 single speed or a new torsa 30
their is not much difference between the two, the line capacity is exactly the same, ratio the same, line retrieve the same.
only thing that is different is the weight of the reel
torsa 30.1 oz
talica 26.5 oz
I know the torsa are discontinued and the talica now have take their place
but if you had to chose one from your experiences what would it be ?
older model tecnology vs newer model technology, but they are probly internally both the same
The reel will be mainly used for droping dead and live baits for kings and samsons, aswell as down rigging/trolling and possibly jigging on the rare occasion.
Cheers

Surely there is more
Surely there is more difference than that in weight? The torsa is an absolute brute of a reel. The talica is a nicer reel to use though.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

I would go
The talica theres not a huge difference between the two but i have heard of torsa having problems with the drag also the talica is lighter by a few hundred grams and also has shielded anti rust bearings where the torsa has anti rust bearings not a whole lots of difference also the talica would be easier to resell if you chnahed your mind in the future both seem like a decent reel also keep in mind the trinidad and ocea jigger they are both nice
wont catch em sitting at home!

For what it’s worth, I’ve got a Torsa 20 and recon it’s the best thing ever.
Very light weight and high retrieve rate. I can fish with it all day with no worries.
Sad that they have been discontinued.

Torsa seems heavier built
Torsa seems heavier built and plenty of new ones still around, if it was for deep drop id go a torsa if it was light game fishing id go the talica

I have had a few of both
Talica all the way.
though I have put a torsa handle on my Talica as it longer giving more torque.
the Talica has plenty of grunt and much lighter.
the retrieve ratios may be different?
I have deep dropped 300m plus with a Talica 12 no problem.

Line capacity
I suggest you check the specs with respect to line capacity. I have a Torsa 30 and when you said the line capacities were similar it didn't sound right to me as I thought the Talica 16 was a much smaller reel than the Torsa 30. The sites I looked at indicated the Talica 16 holds 485yds of 50lb braid while the Torsa 30 holds 1015 yds of 50lb braid. If you don't need the extra line capacity of the Torsa 30 I would choose the Talica 16. The Torsa 30 has quite a wide spool and when this is under load it tends to twist the rod.

I have a Talica 12 and have 400 yards of pe5 plus mono backing and spare room. Shimano specs are 845m of power pro for the Talica 16. I use it for jigging and have had no dramas with it and would happily buy another. I can't add anything about the torsas.

I stand corrected
you are correct, the site I looked at (see link) shows the capacity of the Talica 16 as I stated in my earlier post. I think perhaps a typo between 485 and 845.

Sorry mate I didn't mean
Sorry mate I didn't mean that comment to be that blunt. I was trying to type it out in hurry. I agree with your comment regarding line capacity.
