Shimano tyrnos

any feedback on these reels. Looking at an all round overhead combo, was thinking the 20. Cheers

They are top reels as long

They are top reels as long as you keep them serviced. I've run 3 30's for a bout 5 years and never any drama. Have just got a 20 for trolling out fit.

Mono for sure as it has the stretch, especially for trolling. Too bloody expensive to fill with braid lol.

I've had two 12's for three years, good value for money

Sun, 2015-06-21 20:18

Flog them mercilessly with 50 lb braid, just serviced them this year after two years, run like new. Troll them, float baits, skip gar, even bottom bash a little. Son had a 20, which went over the side in an unfortunate accident on a shitty day, he replaced it with a 12 after using mine.

Ive had one for a few years

Ive had one for a few years and its done me well... The only thing that was said before was to keep them serviced and always wash them after a trip as theyre prone to getting seized. If these steps are followed theyre an excellent game and big fish reel! Very good value

im going to be a bit different

I have never serviced mine and it goes like brand new still, use it mainly for ballooning and have hooked up to some absolute monster sharks at steep point and it has never failed me! it is quite a heavy reel though may be a bit of hard work on a boat all day..

 Have 3 x Tyrnos 50 single

Mon, 2015-06-22 10:32

Have 3 x Tyrnos 50 single speeds, handle broke off one last time we were up north. Only a year old and I had ensured all of the bolts were tight before we headed up. Became a good excuse to buy Tiagras!

I have a 30/2speed. Only

I have a 30/2speed. Only problem I have had is a seized drag thrust bearing which I replaced myself. Otherwise a good smooth reliable reel!

Top Reel !

Mon, 2015-06-22 12:21

I have 2 x Tyrnos 20s, a single speed and 2 speed. Top reels if looked after and have never let me down.

I use mine for both trolling and bottom bouncing.

Hard to justify the extra cost of the 2 speed though, as low gear ratio is TOO low.

I've never found the need to drop to low ratio, others may disagree.

got 2 x Tyrnos 10s which we use for bottom bashing.  Never had any problems, haven't serviced them yet but probably should.
