Spooling my TLD 15 & 25, what line?
Submitted by perthlad on Mon, 2015-06-22 21:32
Hey guys, im looking to respool my tld's as im not happy with the line currently on them.
I've been running braid on the 15 and mono on the 25.
Looking to set them both up for trolling for mackies tuna etc and just wondering what's the best bet?
I've heard that mono is better as for the stretch factor.
should i run a wind on leader or a simple wire trace on a snap swivel as wouldnt mind a quick switch to a bottom rig.
any suggestions as to what brand weighting of line etc
really help me out.
thanks

i run 10kg mono on my tld15 and i reckon thats perfect for
trolling for mackies and tuna etc and as you said mono is generally used for trolling so you get the stretch factor. I spooled it with 500m of platypus pretest and was surprised how much spool capacity was still left to fill. I did an aussie plait then a 100pound richter wind on with good quality ball bearing snap swivel so that combo will be used for trolling only. you mentioned you wanna be able to do some bottom bouncing as well so Id put 24kg braid on the tld 25 then 100pb mono so you get some stretch factor if you use it for medium to heavy trolling and 50lb braid is good for deep reef bashing even if you have to go to a 12 ounce snapper sinker. Thats just what i did not saying its what you should do just a suggestion. as far as brands go i use stren mono on my tiagra 50 and 80 for billfish. I get the guys in bluweater tackle to spool up braid for me off their bulk spools i think he said its zulu brand and i find its really good stuff im definitely no expert on braid so im sure other guys on here will suggest a good brand

Thanks for letting me know
Thanks for letting me know what youre running, i didnt even think to spool with braid and have a mono join, that actually makes a lot of sense.
I really like the sound of your set up on the 15 and will definitely give that some serious consideration.
appreciate your input beeroclock!

No worries as you probably know already attaching mono to braid
has to be done properly otherwise it will snap. My brothers got one of those braid bobbin things and did me a perfect PR knot that has never failed. If you cant tie a good PR knot (like me) id get the guys down the tackle shop to bobbin one on for you when you get the lines for your reels they will probably do it at no charge cause you spent some dollars for the lines
