Shire of Capel Beach Access Review
Submitted by Howard George on Mon, 2012-01-02 09:16
I've just been reading through the annual report 2010-2011 of the commercial fishing industry ( WAFIC ) and on page 14 there's an article where reps from WAFIC presented a submission to the Capel Shire Council outlining the importance of the beach seine fishery to the local community. As a result of that submission the Capel shire council elected to maintain beach access to commercial fishermen. Seeing there is no mention of rec-fishers i'm wondering if anyone knows if we have the same access rights as the pro's.

Don't think so
I don't thinks so, the pros have to have their lic number securely fixed to their vehicle so it could be recognised when the rangers came hunting. The same used to go at the Quindalup pro boat ramp, if no number on vehicle you got an $80 fine regardless of if it was on the trailer and not on the ute.

Pity It's Holiday Time canarvonite
I'll get a letter off to the Capel Shire Council and get some sort of information on what beaches they're referring to that the pro's have access to and see if rec-fishers have access as well. It would be interesting also to find out if Recreational fishing reps. have made any submissions as to beach access.

howard ...to the best of my
howard ...to the best of my memory
last year the capel shire council conducted a review of all the beaches activitys /uses and the access to them in the shire controlled ones , their was a submission period advertised , locally and i think in the west etc
andrew roland principal policy officer at recfishwest , was putting a submission in to the shire.from what i read on it not much change was proposed
however this review didnt extend to the portions of coastline that was closed in 2010 by the private owners at forrest etc ..........and im sure the commercial article in WAFIC refers to the shire controlled beaches only also ,
the continued access to shire beaches is in line with the existing situation for commercial beach netters , and has been so for eons ..i think they just wanted to keep access to the areas that they already used open ...getting the shire to reafirm its existing access arrangements with them .......and no the same access doesnt apply to recs ....much bigger volume of vehicelse tc
and to all the beach users along that coast in 4x4 s , take notice , slow down and stay out of the dunes if you want to keep contiued access to it ........its under even more pressure now that ever before ..........some of the clowns i see down there are going to have it closed to all of us with their antics ......
all beach users need to use common sense and courtesy .....not that hard really

Hi Ya,
On the east coast you have to have a beach license to drive on beaches. AND you have to have a license from each and every shire you want to drive on the beaches of.
Wonder how long before it happens here.
Cheers.
