Shoot-Thru Transducer

Hi all,
Chasing some advice.
I had a Elite-5 Chirp installed (had to go Elite 5 at the time due to dash space...) about a year ago.
Cant even get depth reading when doing over 10Knots, let alone a decent picture of the bottom.
My old hummingbird gear used a shoot-thru transducer, but when installing the lowrance kit the guys installed the standard transom-mount. I’ve read a bit about the Southwind SF hulls producing too much turbulent water to use transom mounted transducers.
Sooo... has anyone had any experience with shoot-thru transducers with the Elite Chirp sounders. Are the Airmar ones the go?
cheers

I have had both a P66 and a P79 connected my HDS. The P66 gave a better reading but in saying that I have never done any settings adjustments to the P79 as the HDS is now used as my GPS whereas with the P66 it was my sounder as well. But i remember when I first installed the P66 it was still better than the P79 without any adjustments.

P79
I switched to a p79 on an older lowrance ( lms series) after struggling to get a decent picture above 10 knots
- easy to fit , far better picture even at the speeds where the TM tranny could read.

Thanks for the replies. Did
Thanks for the replies. Did you lose any functionality by going to the P79? I understand they don’t do water temp (understandable being in the hull) but wondering whether downscan imaging would work?

P79
No downscan with the P79. P79 is 50/200khz only. Downscan uses the 455/850khz or similar from memory.
The elite isn't a HDS unit either.

Yeah thats what I thought.
Yeah thats what I thought. Anyep DSI is on 455/800 kHz frequency. Need to see if I can find an in-hull that does both frequency ranges.
Re HDS - Thanks, yeh knew that must've confused with a new one Im looking at.

Have a look at this page
This is the old Lowrance transducer selection page, now moved to the Simrad page. Plenty of info as a starting point.
