Singapore Tackle Store help

Well now that the admin (flights and accom.) is out of the way, I can get into the good stuff.
What tackle stores are "must visit" in Singapore? I'll be mainly picking up lures (jigs and surface stuff) plus some terminal gear, and I've got few spare spots in my rod rack to fill too if the price is right.
I know a fair few of you have done the tackle tour over there before so any pointers are much appriciated. Any stores much cheaper than the rest or carry heaps more gear? I plan on filling every gram of my baggage allowance on the way home.
Thank
Tim

Hey tim, last time i was in singapore i bought a few demersal jigs from Sabre Stroker price was at least 50% cheaper than local stores... There is also a couple other tackle shops on the same road. So you might be able to do a bit of bargaining.

I can recommend Sabre Tackle

Mon, 2010-06-14 11:52

I can recommend Sabre Tackle as well, Mr Pho is a good friend of the Perth Jigging crowd,
Also a few good little shops down in the backroads of the Arab quarter, near where all the rug stalls are. Just ask the locals for directions.
I bough some reels and lures at good prices down that side, Sabre is good for quality jigging rods and high end tackle.

good luck and you need to be a strong bargainer to get a sweet deal

Hey Tim

Heres the address for joes, seems its on beach road too. There were a fair few tackle shops all within close proximity to each other on beach road and as some have said some side streets off beach road had some more.

Yeah havent been on much lately, havent even wet a line for months, was flat out doing commercial diving course at the start of the year, then a recent new addition to the family plus a change of job that actually requires me to work instead of sit on fishwrecked haha.

Have a good one mate, oh and if your in Singapore without the mrs head to orchard towers, gailang and the paramount ;)

Tim, Each shop specialises

Mon, 2010-06-14 20:26

Tim,

Each shop specialises in particular brands and styles of fishing. For example, fly, bass, jig, pop, Smith, Ripple Fisher, MegaBass, LuckCraft, Jigging Master, etc. So many shops are able to survive in such a small area because alot of brands are on an exclusive, or semi-exclusive basis.

If you're after something in particular, you can PM me, otherwise Sabre will do if its just for reels, Owner or Varivas terminals (but not Decoy). Don't expect one shop to carry everything - they're all very niche and have their own followings.

Sabre Tackle

Tue, 2010-06-15 12:05

I've been to Singapore quite a few times over the last few years and Beach Road is definately the place to visit. If you know what you are after you can price match between the stores. Sabre Tackle has always given me good deals and are up to speed with the lastest gear. I remember a few years back you could buy prawnstars there cheaper than you could buy them in Queensland where they are made.

One more store I found last time is down a side street off of beach road. On the same side as Sabre Tackle at the next side street towards the city (about 30 metres) then walk down about 30 metres and you should be there. They were the best shop in Singas for jigs by far.
