Single hooks on lures

Hi All,

Just after some help/advice on running single hooks on lures. Have used the search function already and know the deal with standard singles but im wanting to try something a bit different and see if it works. Aim is to use a 10g chrome twisty with a single small assist hook to catch herring, as im sick of them spitting the trebles. Have attached 3 pictures with different setups and hoping you can suggest which setup may work best.

Setup 1 is just the assist looped thru the bottom hole on the twisty.

Setup 2 is just the assist looped thru the top hole.

Setup 3 is the assist looped thru a solid ring attatched to the top split ring.

Cheers Sam.

I would just go the assist

I would just go the assist through the bottom of the twisty as it'd probably give better action being retrieved and still provide a better chance of landing the herring. Maybe give the other ways a go though, doubt you'd actually need to go for a solid ring if you're only targeting small fish as they shouldn't really cause much wear on the assist cord being attached to the top loop.

Assist hook on the front

Assist hook on the front (preferably with the split ring) I've used this for Salmon off the beach and they don't throw the hook as much.  With the assist hook off the rear they can still use the weight of the lure as leverage (but not quite as much as a treble).

Cheers
