Sinkers

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering whether you guys make your own sinkers, or just go buy them.

I recently came across a couple of hundred kilos of lead, so, I've been making a fair few. I reckon I shouldn't need to buy any for ages now.

Be careful and dont get lead

Be careful and dont get lead poisoning. Lead is insidious stuff and the lead content in your blood level can rise surpisingly quickly if you dont handle it properly eg fumes. All that said Id say you pretty safe for some years to come fishing wise.

Have you been busy or what

You have certainly been working the lead melting pot, as has been said above make sure you take precautions when melting the lead that the fumes can escape and you are not ingesting them, it's highly toxic stuff.

Thanks guys. I reckon that's

Thanks guys. I reckon that's close to half of the lead supply, so, still a few more to go.

I considered selling some of them and I put an ad on Gumtree, but I didn't get any interest so I suppose I'll just hang on to them for my own use. It's not like they're going to go bad.

I'm not really too worried about the lead toxicity, I work in an area with very good ventillation, and I'm not leaning over the melting pot huffing the fumes. So for the brief sessions I do melt the lead, I can't see it having any major effect.

This stuff is all spent

This stuff is all spent bullets collected from a firing range. Its pretty cool seeing the thousands of projectiles melting into sinkers, though, you have to deal with all the dirt and whatnot stuck to it, there's a bunch of impurities to get out. It all just floats on top of the lead, though.

 Comrad, I would still be

Comrad, I would still be wearing a breathing mask when melting lead. Its not just the lead thats an issue but if there are chemicals on the lead (And there quite often is).

I make my own sinkers, in a very ventilated area but i will not do it withing a proper breathing mask with filters.
