skirted lures ready to go
Submitted by randall df223 on Sat, 2014-12-20 17:05
I won a couple of vent right ally bait skirted lures in a social media competition. I also got the wife to buy a couple when she was last in singapore. well I have them rigged and ready to go.
I can change hooks easily when needed just by undoing the shackle. I can also introduce an addition hook (back to back) by shackling one straight through the eye of the hook.
ready to go and find those metro tuna (when this wind buggers off.. )

The bottom two are iLand
The bottom two are iLand lures which I got from Singapore. I think they are south African. they are very light and the skirts are quite stiff.
The hooks I bought made up, ritcher 9/0. The shackles I got from a yacht chandler. The wire traces I got made up by a non site sponsor who put in the right number of spacers to position the hook near the end of the skirt.

Looks good Randall,
I'm hoping to get out there soon chasing a few tuna too, the wind is certainly making this hard for us small boat owners tho!

Nice
Look good Randall
Any reason you went with wire? I have found it can put fish off.
Also watch out with that long leader in front of the lure if trolling in closer by rotto etc. If you use a snap you can get a nice bubble trail that the Macks will target and you can get bitten off.

I went with the nylon coated
I went with the nylon coated wire to keep the shine down, and yes there is a coast clip swaged onto the wind on leader (150lb). I went with wire because I do fish up at steep point and wanted something to stand up to anything toothy.

Leader
Hey Randall,
I normally run mono right through the lure head and then D shackle the stiff riig, this way you can run it as a single or twin rig. I think that the wire may weigh the lure and stop it from swimming properly. I'm keen to hear how you go with this kind of set up as I've never tried it before.

The ally bait lures are
The ally bait lures are quite heavy anyway. The others are pretty light so it may be more of an issue with those. hopefully post photos soon!

I saw the vent right skirts tested on a charter boat, they swam awesome at 8 - 12kn. Coming up for a breach every now n then! Skipper was impressed!

The guy who makes them told
The guy who makes them told me he provided some to a charter skipper in exmouth. they run a spread of five lures, one being an ally bait (vent right) lure. they hooked five marlin that day, four of them on the ally bait.

tidy rigging.
I like the wire. I normally run mono rigged skirts but will be switching to wire this year. Got snipped a few times at the FADS and if I catch less tuna and dollys.. Great!

Wire
I used those lures every day when targetting wahoo and barracuda. Very, very effective. The wire definitely didn't put off wahoo.
