Crayfishing FFB

Hi guys, long time reader first time poster.

Me and the old man are trying crayfishing for the first time this season, but we are a bit in the dark where we should put the pots.

We have placed them on the otherside of the FFB in around 16m of water - are we wasting our time there? should we be going out deeper? have noticed alot of pots near garden island.

any help would be appreciated would be nice to get some crays for christmas!

In 16m you should be getting them now! If not, won't be too far away.
dove this morning and there are still heaps of whites around in the reef so they are still there and/ or on the move.

cheers

oz74 - which reef are you referring to?

Karlos - were you on the eastern or western side of ffb?

you think i would have better luck just behind GI where all the other pots are? rather than going out to behind the ffb?

thanks for the advice guys!

launching from Point peron just keep moving your pots slightly you might only be 2 metres out and not get them. I am going to shift two pots in close to the island tomorrow in 8 metres to see what is there.

Sand

Set them on sand about 3=5 metres on the seaward side of any reef, the whites are starting to walk out to deeper water and you may have to chase them out as they go.

WTF? The whites are walking deeper? We haven't come in from 26-28m yet while diving for them. ;)

ok will hopefully get some from the seaward side of FFB.

do i need to locate a bommy or something and pot next to that? or just on the sand next to the FFB?

so much to learn - hope these early morning pulls will be worth it! and no not that kind ;)
