skyshow deserted

Looks like the police scared everybody of this year with threats against familys having a quiet drink,,should be a easy shift for them.

A handfull of idiots ruin it for the majority of crew just there to enjoy a good time.

No alcohol ruling is un-Australian.

And Lotterywest was already looking for a way out

Tue, 2010-01-26 19:15

Now this.  I doubt it will be the same in a year or two.  No central Australia Day Perth celebrations, it just wont be the same.

They should just make it no

Tue, 2010-01-26 19:17

They should just make it no excessive amounts of alcohol. For example, dont bust the families that are enjoying a glass of wine or a stubby of beer, bust the ones who are skulling their drinks and vomiting all over the place!

I like a coldie as much as the next bloke but theres to many idiots  and wanna be gangsters that walk around like absolute morones flexing there musles thinking there impressing everyone. Theres no way Im taking my kids and sitting them amongst these idiots and hoping they will be ok. Its pretty sad.

Problem with just regulating

Tue, 2010-01-26 19:56

Problem with just regulating the drinking is that even the quiet family man can turn into a raging idiot after a few beers. And you wont no how much they have had before they got down there. I just pisses me off that I cant take the kids because of the problems.

Tue, 2010-01-26 20:31

I dont live in perth and ive only been to the skyshow once. The time i did go i saw plenty of people that were attempting to swim when they couldnt even stand up!

However the fireworks were fantastic until one off the barges set on fire and stopped the fireworks from going off properly. I think it was about three years ago.

If you cant go to one event and not drink

Tue, 2010-01-26 21:33

What does that say about us... Good people and children shouldn't have to deal with the dropkicks that always turn out, and make absolute asses of themselves at others expense.

The foreshores at 6pm

Tue, 2010-01-26 21:33

The foreshores at 6pm tonight were dead. South perth side that is usually full at tis time was like a ghost town. And the northern side of the river wasn't much fuller.

Not even as mANy boats this year either...

its apity it has come to this however we cant bend the laws for one and not the other....its a bit like saying well he's a good driver so he can speed a little bit? Plus i think the police have had enough of the dickheads ruining it for the families and before it gets too out of hand they have clamped down hard across the board?

i'm surprised it didn't happen years ago?

Tue, 2010-01-26 22:06

Agree PJAY - I would hate to be a cop dealing with some of the wanna be tough guys with a belly full of piss surrounded by like minded morons giving you an absolute gobfull.

It must be easy to be a hardarse when you have backup but I'd like to see how tough they are without the grog and their mates.  Suspect there might be the sounds of them scurrying away.

Wed, 2010-01-27 07:00

The mix was like 15 trainwrecks in a row.  The whole lot sounded like it was recorded from virtual dj.  Its so over the top with cheesy Barnsey, inxs etc, its like FFS guys Australian music has not stood still for 25 years.

Hi Ya,

Don't panic it ain't gonna disappear just because the main sponsor has pulled out.

That happened several years ago and Lotteries took it on.  Just their time is up.  someone else will come along.

Cheers.

The crowds came in late

Tue, 2010-01-26 23:49

On the South Perth side, the crowds came in pretty strong from 7.00 - 8.00

Up until then you could have had a game of footy and troubled nobody.

Funny thing was prior to 6.00pm the coppers almost out numbered the public ! (ok...not quite... but heaps of them around)

Behaviour amongst the crowd was good tho.. a great vibe and no dickheads to be seen.

I managed to get from the South Perth foreshore (after the last set of fireworks went up), back to my car parked near the South Perth cricket club and home to Huntingdale all in 36 minutes flat !

no piss was a good thing

Wed, 2010-01-27 06:00

I think it is about time that the vast majority in this great city stood up and said no to the small number off fwits that ruin what should be good safe place to take the family because they do not understand the word moderation. We actually went for the first time last night purely because of the no booze. I think if all of us stood up to the half wit yobbos we would have a much nicer place to live. How many of us would take our kids out to northbridge on a friday or saturday night??

Wed, 2010-01-27 20:26

Yeah it's a sad state of affairs, I do a lot of contract work for the city of south perth , about two years ago they called me down the day after to repair the main flag pole security cover after someone ripped it off and stole the flag.It was like driving over a sea of glass ,all the plants and hedges were ripped out,and  the shite people had dragged down there was unbelievable:fridges couches etc. And these dheads drape themselves in the Aussie flag and try  to belt sht out of everyone how embarrassing I feel embarrassed to be  an Australian when that crap is on display. The whole show was just a pr stunt for 96fm in the begining anyway. On a lighter note I hope those bloody fireworks have'nt scared the blues away for the weekend, looking forward to a gut full of crabs and some cold mids sat arvo

We absolutely loved it! no

We absolutely loved it!
no F!@#witts drunk out there heads this year, loads of families with kids and a nice safe great night. We stayed overnight in town at a hotel. Even the idiots that revved it up on the 7th floor of our hotel where promptly removed by security. I think tons more families and folk wanting a good night out will be back. Police presence was high from early in the day and great good for them. We had a ball and did not need grog to have a great night. In fact had dinner at a resturant and a beer or two then went out to watch the fireworks... fine by me. Some guys had a few beers at the pub and behaved like gentlemen and they had a great night as well.

Well done Skyworks, Well done Perth and the Police, it reminded me of the first Skyworks we saw in 2003.

I have attended probably 7-8

Thu, 2010-01-28 10:36

I have attended probably 7-8 shows over the years with my family and frankly I hated it but went along because the kids enjoyed the fireworks.

I must say that from my point of view 2010 was the best Skyshow that I had attended

We were near Mends St in Sth Perth and by the time to show started the numbers were pretty good. Lots of families and young people enjoying themselves withoout having to worry about p1ssed up d1ckheads running around with no regard for others.

Like a few others have previously said, I like a coldie as much as anyone however if we cant enjoy a night out with a can of p1ss in our hands what have we come to?

Hopefully the event will continue in a current vein for the years to come.

Steve

Wed, 2010-02-03 18:19

Hi Ya,

I am astounded by the way the media for the sake of sensationalism and public generally has turned the whole alcohol thing around and put the cart before the horse.

Let's be honest.  IT IS ILLEGAL to drink in public - anywhere.  For the media to call it  an alcohol ban is ludicrous!  In the past, it has been a case of turning a blind eye to an illegal practice for the sake a good day out on Australia Day.  The fact that people (yes, a minority) have abused that privilege to the point where the law will now be enforced to protect the public DOES NOT make it a ban.  It is simply enforcing existing law.

That's my rant albeit a late one.

Cheers.
