Small Swordy at Coogee

Snapshot of the video doing the rounds on facebook, the little fella looks a bit sick as has a fishing rig wrapped around his tail.

The rig is a treble and sinker.

Someone has had a go at jagging it over the last couple of days

I have to agree

To catch this sick fish is not going to be a capture of a game fish by any stretch of the imagination, the fish IMO is very sick to be seen in the waters it is swimming in.

To see a magnificent fish such as this swimming free is indeed a special sighting, enjoy it, anyone who catches and kills this fish is a goose in my view and should be ridiculed for doing it.

Daily bag limit is 1 and no minimum size, not to mention they taste great, so what is the issue if someone were to catch this sword fish?

Wasn't but a week ago this page was tearing into people that complained about a marlin being caught and killed for the sole purpose of being weighed

 Apart from the obvious

Apart from the obvious unethical nature of catching a sword  in a marina I thought it was illegal to be fishing in there anyway?

Is that  enough for you??

Even if its not a fisheries rule to not fish in the marina they have been trying to jag the fish which does have a rule.

This is why so many landbased spots get closed down because evryone thinks they can do what they want no matter what the signs say.

This fish has started all the locals up complaining about everyone fishing there so it might not be long before there are fences all around it

Cred

Sun, 2018-01-14 13:53

Sorry BJ but cant agree on that one. No cred shooting a fish which you could shoot from the shore without even getting wet.

If it was Bluewater I would be cheering for them if they did it.

Sometimes there is more benefit letting them swim free.

No one gets tounge in cheek

Sun, 2018-01-14 19:39

No one gets tounge in cheek humour these days BJ.

Just last week after an icy evening with the Mrs I escaped to my PS4 and was promptly followed and told goodnight in a terse fashion. I merely  (tounge in cheek) requested that she take her PMS with her and got a  vicious rundown of everything I've done wrong in the past 24 months.

My mate and I were having a conversion about this

Sun, 2018-01-14 14:45

We all know it's sick or had its eardrums Blown by some testing from GI I feel like if it was killed legally there would be no problem and there would be a few records broken but after seeing the footage from inside the marina taken from the go pro I do enjoy seeing it swim free

If it were in the open ocean

Mon, 2018-01-15 01:17

If it were in the open ocean like it normally would be then I'd see no issue with catching it. But it is in a marina, tens of thousands of people have seen it on facebook and a lot have made their way to Coogee hoping to see it. It would be a shame if that were ruined by one person thinking of their frying pan. It would also generate a lot of negativity around fishing in the general community. In addition to that, fishing is not trying to jag hook something that won't take your bait.

Mon, 2018-01-15 05:23

I'm no greenie but IF it were sick, wouldn't it be more ethical for someone to catch it and dispatched swiftly?, would you just look at a sick dog, cat, bird, turtle or dolphin and say, isn't it great to see one
