buy them off the net

have been using the net [o/seas purchases] for some time now. at 40-70% of prices here, why wouldnt you? I agree that the local retailers need support, but in this techno age, they must realise that the days of 100-160% mark up are GONE !Untill they stop being so greedy and come to the realisation that there is a very compettive elctronic market out there, and use a realistic mark-up figure, unfortunately they will continue to lose local support. I saved over $450 on an electric reel off the net. Local stores would drop to $1020, [best offer from 3 shops] on a reel with RRP of $1090. I purchased it from o/seas, delivered to my door in 6 days, for $638  !!  Sorry, but our retailers need to WAKE UP !

Dilligent, you have no idea

Dilligent, you have no idea about markups espessially on japanese products like the baby Runbohs J Deja Vu is asking about. Japanese products have very little margin in them for retailers.

We have a few left in stock, we also have a large range of other GT stickbaits in store that you might also be interested in.

We also have just got in some Nature boys Surfish  which have proven deadly at exmouth

Diligent, Luke is correct, there is **** all mark up on products such as the high end Japanese lures and electric reels that you are describing. I don't blame anyone for buying on the net, I just wish they knew that shops aren't putting 100-160% markups on those sort of products, lucky to put 10-20% on things like electric reels.

I can accept there may not be a high mark up on some products, as you have said. But there certainly IS high mark up on probably a large percentage of  others, that you sell. The confidence in shopping at "the local retailer" is diminishing rapidy because of it. Even the "great" gerry harvey has circum to the realistaion that inet shopping is going to be the way to go for many products, and he, [ of all people ], who was so passionately against it 2 yrs ago, has realised the ramifications of denying it and being greedy. He has now sourced different and new wholesalers, [yes, from overseas] to stay competitve with the i/net shoppers. Perhaps other retailers should take the same approach. I would have thought better they make $10 on a product 20 times, than nothing on a product cause they out mark themselves. If the average "Joe blow" can buy an item for close to half what he would pay for it here... so can the retailers ! The local wholesalers seem to think, if they tie up a retailer, by threatening to stop supply to that store or chain, if they source products, [same or other] from local or O/Seas. They to need a reality check !! Retail and wholesale outlets HAVE to acknowledge the market trends have changed DRAMATICLY in a short time, and there will be no more "bullying" from wholesalers.  As is the example now given by one of the major chain stores in this country, who decided to bite the bullet and SURVIVE by purchasing stock from other sources to remain compettive. {HARVEY NORMAN}..... If you wish to challenge me on wholesalers current attitude, confide with one of THIS sites SPONSORS, who has been told he cannot have displays in certain tackle shops, coz they have "agreement" with other supplyers, who threaten to withdraw all there products if opposition products are displayed in store !!! SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING  "THE LITTLE/LOCAL BLOKE".  Changes are happening, in ALL facets of trade, those who accept and adapt to them, will survive, those who deny it, and whinge about it, without even attempting to compromise, are destined to failure.   **Luke and Brody, this is in no way meant as an attack on either of you personally, nor the outlets you represent, and in no way is meant to be derrogrative of same,  but a generalisation of wholesale/retail outlets in this country, who now have strong opposition, which they need to acknowledge and become competitive against.

I'd love to be able to sell

Tue, 2012-01-17 09:45

I'd love to be able to sell stuff cheaper, but at the end of the day a shop needs to make money, as you'd know. I have to agree that local wholesalers need to be a lot more competitive, now that, on some occasions, people can buy a reel cheaper overseas, than what a shop can buy it for at wholesale price. That certainly makes it hard for retail shops to compete.
