Smith's Beach tips
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2008-01-22 10:06
I have booked into stay at Smiths Beach for four days in mid-March. Never fished there before. Does anyone have any tips for good places to toss a line from the beach or rocks?
Many thanks Colin Hay

That's what I am hoping
Hi Sam, I hear Smith's Beach is pretty good for the salmon and that's the main reason I booked in. Got a possie looking straight over Smith's beach - so hopefully I will see a big school coming around the headland.
I was also wondering if the headlands at Smith's Beach are good to fish from if the salmon don't happen to be there (I hope they are because I am really looking forward to tossing a few metals and poppers on my new combo.)
Never been there before and I have no idea what the headlands are like there. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
All the best

yeh the rocky headlands
yeh the rocky headlands around smiths beach is prime for salmon, also the usual herring/skippy etc etc..
if the salmon arnt playing the game with the lures then a live herring never fails
good luck mate

You get good tailor there
There is also a chance of a mulloway if you want to walk up the beach a bit. That and there is planty of rocky places to fish and chase groper and other reefy critter's.

Thanks Lukas
It sounds good. I am definately planning to toss out some bait at night, so it sounds like should be heading up the beach a bit then. Is there a better side to fish the rocks and reefs, or it just a matter of what wind is blowing?
Thanks for the info, Colin

Can't wait to get down there. Just hope the salmon run is as good as it has been over the past few years.

Good Luck Col
Good luck Col, used to surf smiths and yalls in my younger days. I too have heard of big tailor being pulled from around yalls.

No worries Jas Thanks Col
Sounds like a plan. Got the Shimano big baitrunner to toss out a big bait. I may as well make the most of it.
Hi Col, Yallingup's one of my favourite places. Can't wait to have a good look around Smith's Beach. Might bot time to drag out your old board (twin fin thruster or malibu mate) and beach rod and head over that way.
All the best Colin
