All arent that different. Ocean Outlook, BOM and Seabreeze are all looking OK. Just take the day off and go for it. Even if its not perfect still better than being at work.
Yeah gotta give it a go, especially after i gave everyone at work the shits about how hot its gonna be. Might even get to post a pic or two on the brag board. lol i wish. It'll happen one day just gotta put the time in.
Exact destination unknown at the mo, but will be leaving from Peron as well. Have heard there's some kg's at the back of the five with some pinkies thrown in for good measure. There was a small hammer head caught out there on Sunday (1.5m). So looks like that might be the go, if the weather gods are REALLY kind i might even venture out a bit further. Tight lines mate.
If I see ya out there Ill say hello. We're still tossing up between FAD's, Grey Band Cod in 250m or just hit the 70-90m area. All depends on how far wrong the forecast is this time.
Good day today. Left at about 10.30am and was planning to head out to the FADS, but was waylaided 14MN out of OR. Lots of birds and white water, so I went over for a look. A school of YFT about 30-40kg had balled a school of bait and were smashing them.
Tried everything in the book, except live bait, but they wouldn't but take anything.
After that I decided not to head out but to fish the lump that was there, Had several KG and got my PB of 62.5cm today! Yah! ( already in the tummy!)
Also heard that sargent baker fillets are good dhuie bait, so I decided to test it. Took a whole fillet, put 3 hooks into it and sent t down with a small running sinker. No dhuie, but got my next PB. 5 rock cod, 3 sargent baker, 4 blackass, a pinkie and 3 different types of coral fish - on that one bait!!!!! Couldn't get the damn thing off the hooks!
I took the other half of the carcass and rigged another rod. Had one rod down and when I looked over, the tip bent, so I threw the carcass that I had just baited into the water and grabbed the other rod, nothing, but then the ratchet of the rod baited with the carcass went screaming! Swapped rods again and was on big time, but what an anti climax - it was a small hammerhead shark just over a meter. At least it put up a decent fight. That one didn't come onboard, just released it alongside.
Oh the wind died right down and there was hardly any drift today. Wished I could have stayed out longer, but had to head back as my wife had a meeting this evening so I had to mind the kids. All in all had good fun!
Didn't have any skirts or deep diving minnows. Only slices and spoons but they werent interested. Tried cubing mulies and squid as well. Was a real kick to watch them fly thru the air.
Great day Alfred. Pity about the Tuna but atleast the weather was fantastic.
We planned a late start to allow the wind to drop a little so left at 8 and headed out to the 200m line. Got a few Pinkys and Red snapper so went looking for the FADs. Couldnt for the life of me find Fremantle or Yamaha FAD at all and with the low swell and good conditions today we could see for miles.
Gave up looking and headed 30km south to look for some deep water fish in the 200's. More pinkys, big flattys and the ever popular green eyed sharks.
After the arms and back gave up with all the winding we headed into 90m. Tryed a spot we came across and pulled 1 Dhu and Jimbo dropped 2 more good uns. Got a couple of good size black bums too. Headed into the 40s on the way home and we got another Dhu and a Kg.
Was good to finally get out as I hadnt fished since b4 christmas.
Spewin Alfred, i got caught out last year at Mindaie's when YFT were busting up bait and for the first time i had no lures on board....ouch it hurts. Now, skirted & minnows onboard....ready to rock!
Good day Jody, some nice fish caught, the 15kg dhu's a stonka fish....
I do admire your persistence Tim in the deep water, will/has paid off and more to come.
I went out yesterday (Soupster as decky) from Tworocks (genlemans hours due to the early winds) and spent half the day doing reconnaissance, despite having more than enough spots i like finding more......a buzz for me. After the recon morning session we hit up a few of my spots in the arvo with driftbaiting and got into Dhufish/Breaksea cod/pink snapper/KG/baldchin etc. After keeping a feed i released my last dhu 8-10kg then went to jigs. Using small baitfish 100 gram jigs i got two more dhufish and a few cracker breaksea cod also, biggest just over 50cm. We both lost a few descent fish on jigs (they spat it) but good fun none the less.
The conditions were awesome after the easterly dropped off and made for a good day. Cooked the baldy whole in the bbq that night and had a great feed with plenty of coldies in the pool....was a warm day/night!
I saw some bar fidge size tuna as well mate....on the 40m contour.....I had no tuna lures on board either....some of the fish busting out of the water were HUGE....
coming in for more of those 120g Zests Ryan green was the colour....
try placing a bottom hook on the jig for the missed hits.....its working for me
No probs Salmo, i have plenty of the Zest's here. I was using the pink colour and worked well also. I didn't have the problem of miss hits, just we had a hook & spit which happens with jigs sometimes. I used a bottom hook before but i often bury my jig amoungst nasty stuff so yeh, the outcome isn't normally good for me so i use a top assist only!
Shops been busy so took me a while to get the pics up, here's a few from last Thursday!
I got a few this size, kept this one for a feed, on the driftbait!
Was chasing a baldy for the BBQ, tasted delish that night....on the driftbait!
Soupy with a nice KG, hungry fish that took a driftbait!
Had a few fish to take home so i went to jig. Got some plump black bum and smaller dhufish, i got this BB then got another on jig that measured over 50cm....released!
