Sml Reel Advise
Submitted by Rodrat on Wed, 2008-09-10 13:53
Hi
I am after buying a sml reel for throwing soft plastics and lures.
Looking for something in the 3 to 5 kilo range, something that will take
10lb braid. Has to have good drag and smooth retrival.
I have been looking at the shimano stradic 2500.
Does any one have one of these or have any suggestions to what else to look at
that is similar?
Cheers

I have the new Stradic 2500 FI.l I love it. Smooth drag, great casting system and great value IMO.

TD Sol 2500, Tierra 2500,
TD Sol 2500, Tierra 2500, Penn Applause and Affinity, Shimano Saros, all under $300
Best value I reckon is the TD Sol as its full metal with Real 4 technology and spare spool, but most importantly....its comes in ORANGE

The difference is about 15 grams and $10
The 3000 will hold a further 50 m of 4.5 kg line.

Depends on how much you want to spend Rod
The SOL's are a great reel, but $100 more than the Stradics.

Another vote for the sol.
Another vote for the sol. Nice smooth reel and strong too (I have the 2000 size and it seems to handle 8lb fine). The stradics/sustains just didnt feel right to me, not sure why (could have something to do with the gear types or gear ratio?).
I quite like the smaller sized reel when fishing light. Think it took around 200-250m of 8lb for reference.

I've got a 2500 Stradic
but before I go to Exmouth next year I'm getting a Sol 3000. Tried one, loved it.

Yeh RR...line capacity is
Yeh RR...line capacity is the only difference hence the large spool and rotor, but uses the same 2500 body. So weightwise is very little difference. I'd rather go the 2500 as it better balanced to most light 10lb outfits. 3000 only if you need to fish 20-30lb braid with it. You dont need the extra line capacity if you can already fit 300m or yd of braid on the 2500.

go for the sol .
i find the daiwa reel better in the small size . due to shimano reel look small from daiwa .
but i find the shimano reel better in big reel .
just look at each other and you will see the different .
yeah daiwa can hold more line so more chance to get big fish on board
