Snapper off the beach
Submitted by pauldoohan1 on Mon, 2012-07-02 11:56
Went for a lazy fish on Sunday at a south metro beach with a mate, he was targeting sharks (and got smoked) and I was as usual targeting Mulloway. Had a sand whiting I had caught 20 min earlier taken by this monster.
Pretty bl00dy stoked with this fish, was outta the blue and guess I was just in the right place at the right time. From nose to fork was 1mt. Good reward for many hours put into beach fishing lately.
Rod Daiwa Ballistic
Reel Shimano Thunnus bait runner spooled with 30 pound Finns braid.
Running sinker down to a 1 mt 60 pound trace and a pair of snelled Gamakatsu's.
Apologies for the pictures had some better ones but they might show where it is.

solid fish
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Fark. that trumps a mulloway in my book anyway.
well done.
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Thanks everyone for the
Thanks everyone for the congratulations. I'm still smiling about it, just can't believe the size of him , not sure I'll ever beat that Pinky from the sand. I didn't mention the fight but it was pretty epic and he just didn't stop but once I got him beached he had fought himself out and could not be returned. I'm usually keen not to take the bigger fish home and love to watch them swim away so I took alot of care getting him filleted up and he will be feeding me for awhile. Will remember this fish for many years.

Fish oof a lifetime mate - congrats - awesome work - continues to show what a restriction on Demersal Gillnets is providing for the greater Perth Region. It would be interesting for a collection of some of the classic catches, particularly off the beach to see if this has improved since the restriction of netting. That would at least anecdotally show fisheries how much better things have become since the Metro closure .Any which way thats the type of catch to motivate anyone to get out there with world class fishing on the doorstep of the city!

Not much use trying to disguise where you caught the fish because now its yesterdays fish and cannot be caught again, that is if you took it home.
The chances of catching another one like it again are bloody small because look how long its taken you to get a ball burster like that one, you just happened to be at the right place at the right time. Well done.

That's a beautiful fish mate
That's a beautiful fish mate and land based too!... The big snapper seem to be hanging around in close at the moment. As I was coming in from an unproductive day of fishing on the boat yesterday the fisheries officer just told me that some lucky bugger had just landed a 9 kilo pinky off the rocks at the woodmans point groyne... Just goes to show what happens when you're in the right place at the right time.
