snorkelling with a hand reel

does anyone know the legality of this?
me and my dad used to do it down @ watermans beach and we caught a fair few fish.
then he told me he thought it might be illegal.
it's a pitty if it is though. there's a lot of big whiting in the holes of the reef between watermans and trigg.
they're not too hard to catch doing this.
just find them. chuck out the line done.
it's would be good to go down for a swim and catch dinner just before i go. also can be more selective with the fish.

seen it done
Saw a bloke in trouble down Bremer one time, he was snorkling with a hand line, and had managed to get it tangled around himself. We got to him and a very frightened young bloke he was. Another time at Peacefull bay, my nephew was snorkling and using a hand line with a big enough sinker to keep it bait/line on the bottem when he got a cobbler. The cobbler took of doing circles, and as I didn't expect cobbler would take a bait, I swum over for a look. The cobbler managed to leg wrap me, most embarrassing.
I don't think it is ileagle , with a little bit of caution works well. Sound like you have it sussed Gappy, let us know how you go.

One of my mates has gotten
One of my mates has gotten some Blue Groper doing this close into rocks down south. Big Handline and grab a crab off the rocks and swims along the rocks till a Blue groper rocks up to him. Then 'tows' the crab in the waster for a bit until the Groper grabs it. He reckons it a hell of a ride when you first hook them!
He swears they can sense when you have a Spear Gun with you in the water and hide, but not a handline! hahahaha :-)
