So how do you extend your journey if your fuel tank dosn't have the capacity.

So how do you extend your journey if your fuel tank dosn't have the capacity. Do you have a reserve tank, and a selector valve.
Do you carry jerry cans, how do you safely transfer the fuel?

 I have an 80L stainless

I have an 80L stainless cruise tank that I plumb straight to the fuel separator. As soon as its empty it gets disconnected and strapped to the bowrail.

Have also 'seen' 60l drums used as fuel tanks on long coastal trips. Had a barb fitting welded to a fuel bung that screwed straight into the 60l drum. As soon as the drum was empty it just got unscrewed and sunk to make more room on board. That was the non environmentally friendly option.

What disasters have you seen with the bladders Catchalittle? I was just about to buy a couple of 200l bladders.

Yeah I was thinking the bladders seemed like a good idea for montes trip or something. Empty it after the trip over then stash out of the way and have your space back. Would be interested to hear why aswell.

I have used a couple of plastic fuel jerrycans before - as I went out to an island and it was windless I pulled up and did the siphoning on the beach to avoid spills in the boat (weren't any), If it was windy (sand being blown) would have just done it in the boat as the wind would have disapated any fumes.  I have an extra portable tank but the empty jerrys were easier to store out of the way - once empty just tied them to the bow rail. used a bit of fuel hose to siphon

I use a 20L Plastic Jerry can and transfer using a 3/4" jiggler syphon hose. As 20L is good for an extra 50km on my boat.

Yes, Just got mine from BCF, but go for the 3/4" size one as the fuel hammers a lot faster. (had it for about a year hasn't broken yet)

can also get them at Whitworths https://www.whitworths.com.au/main_itemdetail.asp?cat=135&item=67399

Wed, 2013-10-30 19:11

I used a 20l black jerry in my old boat. worked well enough. How much extra are you thinking ?

You can use jerries, fuel bladders, poly tanks, plumbed is always going to be the best with no deck space lost but big $$

I have 330l tank now so all good. Next boats looking at 500l for the start !

have the original 90 litre and have a second 60 litre tank fitted with seperate lines and filter so if you ever run out or get dirty fuel or water have 60 litres ready to go , i just alternate each trip to keep it fresh
