Hi guys
I am pretty new to soft plastic fishing and l was wondering when using mono do you need to use a swivel.
And what are some good sp to target herring whiting bream.
Also what are some good jigheads to cast further enough off the beach with a small hook.

No swivel, 1/8oz jighead
No swivel, 1/8oz jighead with a size 1 or 2 hook matched with any small 2.5-3 inch plastic will get you herring

Why no swivel
why no swivel l thought that with mono you had to have a swivel to stop line twist

Plastic doesn't swim as well
Plastic doesn't swim as well if there's a swivel attached, also puts more terminal tackle.in the water which could spook the fish (not that it matters hugely with herring but whiting and bream will be put off for sure).
Learn to tie a loop knot and put the plastic on straight as mentioned below and you shouldn't have any dramas with twist.
Honestly for herring on the beach you're better off going with a metal slice especially if fishing mono unless its a super calm beach (but that's another topic and just a suggestion)

The jig
head is balanced so the hook points up, just be careful that you put the soft plastic on correctly or that can cause a bit of spin.

leader
another thing to consider leader wise is using fluro carbon instead of normal mono as it sinks and is less visable to fish, where as mono floats

This is the loop knot I use, very simple but very effective.

Very similar to the Rapala loop which is what I use.
