solar power

I'm thinking of getting solar power panels installed,I got a quote of around $4500 for a 2.0kw unit which will produce about9-10 units a day. Does anybody have solar power and is it worth the outlay? This price is after the rebate. Any info appriciated.  cheers.

That seems rather cheap whois it from ? I think it could be worth it as they are talking about upping the pay from solar to 60cents a kw wich aint bad but just for fun the ATO is consiring taxing the $ raised from this as income.

We are getting a 1.5kw

Sat, 2010-05-22 07:29

We are getting a 1.5kw system soon with a 2.5kw inverter for $3400 installed after rebates down here in Busso. With that system and having the sun shining each day with no one at home and all the power being made getting put back into the grid should save us about $80 on each bill. I went for the 2.5kw inverter so I can upgrade the system later on without buying another inverter.

Cheers

Be careful with cheap solar

Be careful with cheap solar pannels. Some need replacing after ten years.

The ones we are getting have

The ones we are getting have a 20 or 25 year warranty, that's based on x ammount of loss over a period of time.

rebates

Sat, 2010-05-22 09:47

Rubes i have done the same and found that the different companys all have different rebates as it depends on who they have approached for them, basically its the large emission company put funding back into the domestic market as a rebate to offset their green house emmission gas charges, i would firstly compare the solar panels you are getting and also you are getting a 2kws of panels but what size is the invertor.

I have looked at 1.5  kw of panels with a 2kw invertor so i can expand later, i got a very informative quote from A Womans Spark  94462954  they offer all packages and equipment ,  ialso believe that in July this year the government is increasing the amount  $ per unit returned to the power grid through your system whic then will hike up the solar panel costs.

We got our panels a few

Sun, 2010-05-23 09:24

We got our panels a few months ago are quite happy with them so far. I did a fair bit of research before jumping in as there is some cheap stuff out there.

As above be VERY careful with the cheap equipment available, it's cheap for a reason. If you check the details of the panels you are getting, the 25 year warrenties are only for OUTPUT ie 80% after 25years (all panels in OZ have this). It is NOT a structural warrenty. Most panels have a 2-5year structural warrenty, with some having up to 10years. Also check for the output of the panel, most have a +/- 5% on the out put so, a say 175w panel could be 178w or 170w etc (although there are some on the market which are only positive out put).

All in all you should expect your panels to last over 30 years, you get what you pay for and in the end it's all paid for by rebates and the money you get from feeding into the grid.

Oh and definately go the larger inverter so you can upgrade later. Hope this helps.
