Sounder Advise

Hi Guys, Apologies for the poor pics.

Friday night for the first time that I've notice the sounder was getting a second reading of the bottom...only in some places....shift was set at 0 from memory, was a good swell rolling with boat on anchor.

Any idea of the cause. Didn't phase me too much would like to get rid of it in future if possible

Any ideas ?

Were you next to a bombie?

Were you next to a bombie?

Could be half of the sounder 'cone' is picking up the top of the bombie at 9 meters and the other half is hitting the bottom ground at 11 meters.

Cheers fellas...yea agree gain is up a bit..5 would be better.

Mate was with you Dtrain, this due to the swell.

Only landed the 1 solid pink out of that, dropped one and they started to disperse.

 Would it have anything with

Would it have anything with your depth range being set to 20m? I know my last sounder used to do some funny things if the range was set a lot more than the actual depth.

 Isn't that your secondary

Isn't that your secondary echo ? Set your range to auto and it will shift the bottom to about 2/3 down you screen. Basically it's doing what it's supposed to.

Was trying to keep it in manual...i had shift preset at 5m but had to change to zero to get it midway.....ive read to keep in bottom third but couldnt sort it out there, think its my range stting....thus reading 20m.

Will go through manual tonight before lights out.

 You can adjust your range

Mon, 2016-09-12 20:10

You can adjust your range distances depending on what depth you generally fish. I normally fish from 10 to the 60 metre mark, therefore I have my range set every ten metres then spread out the remaining settings if I'm running the sounder on manual. I generally just leave it on auto though.

Thanks Ezi. Range was set at

Tue, 2016-09-13 12:23

Thanks Ezi.

Range was set at 10m increments from memory as usually in 20m plus...10m being not enough and 20m being to much in this case....15m would have been the go. got an old thread were Harro stated he had his depths pre set...5m,15m,30m,40m,50m and so on.

Will try get sorted this weekend as ill be sounding again, the shift / range things is something I'm struggling with.

Will give the Auto a run also, does this affect any other settings I wounder...bottom lock still possible etc
